This place is a little slow lately, so I’ll toss up one of my piddley projects for critique.
I traded into an older Savage 116 in .300 Win mag, a caliber I’ve wanted. for a while. as always for me, it’s a low budget operation.
The gun was a 24 inch heavy fluted barrel with a brake. Potential, but it came in a standard injection molded stock. Accuracy had room for improvement.
I picked up an accustock on ebay for $25, but my rifle was a fixed mag, blind double stack. What to do?
The barrel lug had to be modified as well.
There was info out there that I could remove the mag and modify the feed ramp to work with the accustocks detachable magazine. But I am not a fan of removable magazines for hunting rifles that I plan to shoot one or two shots from in the field. Just one more thing to worry about.
So how to make it all work?
Luckily for me, my neighbor is a hobby machinist with a mill and time on his hands.
And I have a head full of ideas.
So here is our solution.
