My LGS has a black MSAR on consignment with 2mags for $1350. It appears to be in great condition and has the traditional AUG type optic.

I don’t know anything about MSARs but have always wanted and AUG. Would this be a good buy?

Not unless it comes with a ton of spare parts.

Just save up for a proper AUG. MSARs are no longer in production, and spare parts are minimal since most MSARs don't interchange with Steyr parts.

Guys, thanks for the help. The MSAR doesn't come with spare parts and I didn't realize the parts aren't interchangeable with AUG parts. I assumed they were.

It would've been nice if they were more compatible, but MSAR made sure they didn't.

NO.  I had one which ended up having mag release issues.  I would not buy again.

Plus us the mags sucked something fierce.

On top of everything else the integrated optics had issues with breaking too and were discontinued before the everything else.

It would suck for that to break then having to go searching for a replacement rail for a rifle that’s been out of production for years.

I wouldn't pay $1350 for it, but I would and did buy a MSAR years ago for $900 with a bunch of mags.  It was right before they went belly up.  I was very happy with the rifle and it was 100% problem free for me.  But I eventually traded it for a DR650 motorcycle, which I am super happy with.

Keep an eye out for a real AUG.  I bet you could find one for not much more.  When they were $2000 on up, AUG clones weren't a bad buy.  But now with Steyr bringing them in again, go for the real deal.

Buy the real deal.  If you get a MSAR, you will end up with a real AUG and a MSAR that you want to get rid of and at the end of the day, be poorer than you would if you just get the AUG from the very start.

I was going to post this. I've seen AUGs for 1300-1500 used over the last year.

I’d spend a little more and buy an actual AUg.

This. I have one, have the parts for the shitty mag catch and the funky little 3 pin screw driver.  There were also issues with a lot of the optics, so is the E\W turrets spin freely, won't hold zero.  I have a rail to replace it that I bought right after the rifle because I like RDS better anyway. But I haven't messed with it in years. Frustrated to say the least, great concept, crappy production and development.

I have a gen4 STG556 E4 that has been very reliable. I gave $800  for it 4 years ago. Believe that is a fair price for the MSAR . For $1350 I would pass and buy the Styer.
