Good Morning,

This is my first jump at a MSAR STG-556 E3.  Came to a nice agreement with a gentleman on the EE.  Unfortunately the company went out of business and I knew that.

So,
1. What do I need to stock up on for parts and where? If they are available.
2. Must have upgrades?
3. Most comfortable CQB optic for an Aug?

Thanks all!

Call Chris at Ratworx and ask him all the questions.

OP, Chris is where to go. He may not have all the parts in stock but get on the want list and you'll be set.

I love mine but too bad they're flattops.

Chris or Aaron at Ratworx can set you up. Get a Ratworx hybrid bolt. It uses ar15 parts. You can also use the gas system parts from an AUG on the Msar. Gas Piston, spring, gas plug port selector. You can get those parts from PJ’s Steyr Aug page.

About six or eight months ago I saw one at a local shope for 1100 bucks.....I nearly bought it because I like the pebble texture on the stock......

I don't think they normally go for quite that cheap......it was rather tempting because I know Ratoworx makes quite a few parts or them.....

Try getting a replacement mag catch and let me know what you come up with.

That was never an issue with that model so he doesn’t need one.

Edit: unless he got the name wrong and it’s not a stg556 but an e4 that takes ar mags.

No, its an E3.  Thanks for all the response.  I'll give the rattworx folks a call.  What am I looking at spending for spare parts.  "Better to have and not need than need and not have"

Magazines from where ?

The E4 had problems. The plastic mag catch would fail with AR mags.

Ratworx and PJ Customs for parts.

Must get a 2020 sear. OMG it is awesome.

For optics I was able to get a Manticore Arms one piece 30mm Scope Mount and replace the flat top.

Also you might need a replacement mag catch.

I upgraded my MSAR with the following from Ratworx, all currently available on their website - but when they sell out of something it's gone for a long time....

I consider these must haves:

1. Bolt - takes AR parts
2. Bolt Sleeve
3. Cocking Piece
4. 20/20 Sear

total $235

Brother-in-law and I have had MSAR rifles for a few years, never had a problem.

I have had my E4 for 4 years. Fired about 3000 rounds. The only trouble I had was the cocking piece broke. For only $10 each I bought 5 extra just in case.  I picked up a complete rebuild kit for mine , bolt carrier with the rods and springs in place  , couple bolts, trigger packs  and other small parts on Gun Broker. Occasionally there are extra parts on there.
