That really is a nice one. Mostly only field grade and above officers brought these back from best I can tell. My best friend's Grandfather growing up was a line Infantry Regimental Commander (Colonel) and brought one back. It sat on the mantle in his office for many years. He even let us play in the yard with it when we were kids a couple of times along with some other stuff he had. Friend's uncle has it now, he hopes to inherit it someday.
I'd be curious to know the rank of the Soldier who brought this one back from Italy. He would've had to have held onto that gun for a long damn time to bring it back. A lot of the Infantry units that did the Italy deployment also made the push into France and Germany as well. My Great-Uncle was a rifleman with 1-7 Infantry and did Italy-France-Germany and was killed 3/15/45 after being in Europe for 2 years. What a shitty way to go, and he's buried in Alsace-Lorraine, France.
