I'm taking care of an estate of a family friend, who had a significant MG collection. Most everything was WWII era, which I'm good on, but he owned 1 M60. He was an M60 gunner in VietNam, and bought it as a memento. I've seen the M60, it's standard looking one from First Blood. I believe he owned it prior to '86 and never fired it. He once said it was a RIA. Not sure if SN is on trunnion or receiver, or both.
Am I correct that all RIA M60s are just rebuilt guns, and not considered collector M60s?
Watching the MG forums over the years, M60s for sale often end up in pissing matches because the seller doesn't know what they have, or listed it improperly - that's a bad trunnion, that's a stemple reweld, the barrel gap is too much, the gun is junk.. etc..
What do I need to find out about this gun to help the widow get an understanding of value, and to properly sell it? I'll have access to the Form 4, but beyond that, no one even knew he had it.
Thanks
