I just wasted the effort of squirling away the cash for an m249s. This really chaps my hide too as I was looking forward to getting one. Guess now I'll just spend the cash on something else....
What's the deal with FN? Did they stop making them? Are they only making like 10-20 a year? Checked gunbroker and there are two priced at $12k LOL.. No freaking way, $8k is high enough IMHO. Always a day late and a dollar short it seems... |

I was in the same boat when the M2 .50cal kits came in 15 years ago and were only $400. I had just bought the M1919 and had no cash for the M2. Now kits are $3500 and built semi's are $8k+

I work for a FN distributor. FN hasn't made any 249S for quite a while. They may make some more in September. They have probably made a lot less of them then you would think. They didn't exactly sell extremely well.

Well, I have two, so there’s that!
18Z50......I love me some M249 cyclic! |

Thanks for the heads up, but next purchase for me will prob be an 18" barrel and a standard fixed stock.

Has there been any confirmation yet if there will be another batch of these in September? I’ve had my eye on one of these since they came out but had just bought a MM23E. I remember they were all over GB for close to $7k. Hoping to snag one at least in the $7-7.5 range??

I talked to the FN rep at the NRA Expo this past weekend, they said in the next month or two there will be a batch.

If we get any new AWB's those of us who have these may be potentially sitting on a nice pile of cash. Or have them confiscated. [img] View Quote |

I wouldn't mind as I bought my M249S to enjoy and not to resell. I just don't want .gov to come tote off my expensive stuff and hand me a $200 wall mart gift card for the trouble.. View Quote |

You should have no worries there- when they've done it in the past (Streetsweepers at the state level and MKS M14s at the federal level are two I've been involved with) they didn't offer a gift card. View Quote |

Any more floating around? I too remember when they were plentiful.

Looking for one of these - if anyone has one, shoot me a DM.
Thanks. |

Would under 7k for a slightly used 249S be a buy it now price? Gun only?
Also, since I can't really afford it right now, one is listed at the Cabelas Gun Library for $6500 w/Burris AR536 Optic, I like to browse through the listings and this one stuck out. You can pay them $20 to have it transferred to your local Cabelas. Have at it: Cabelas M249S |

Lots of owners say these guns are totally worth it. Can someone explain it to me? It's an enormously heavy AR-15. Is it a nostalgia thing for ex-mil folks?
Honestly asking... |
|
Most people buy them for fun, or to collect.
How can you say it isn't worth it to them?? These are not poor man's guns for harvesting game. No real way to justify it. A "Just 'cause" gun. Wish I had the cash to play in that realm. Doc |

How well do y'all's run in semi-auto off mags? Any particular mags that are more reliable than others?

Mine runs perfectly with any USGI magazines but polymer is a no go. It tends to really wear on the feed lips so I now use a single steel Israeli magazine that I don't care about.

View Quote My last exercise I was a turret gunner & had blanks for the M4. Of course I tried to get them to run in the 249, and it just crushed them. Every round, a nice big dent. |
