You will probably be best served by purchasing a complete M16A2 or M4 fire control group. Almost all parts in the fire control group changed from A1 to A2. The burst cam is different between the M16A2/A4 and the M4.

I've got a FN burst trigger group I'd sell if you want it. I'd bet it'll only make one or two range trips with you though.

My department is not wanting everyone to have full auto. The weapons are free from the 1033 program. My compromise as the armorer was the 3 round burst. It would be cheaper to convert to semi.

Maybe you could consider converting the selected guns to semi-auto only with something like a Geissele SSA (check pricing though), so at least you get a very nice trigger instead of the crappy trigger pull (as I understand it) that comes from installing the burst mechanism. |

The biggest issue with burst is twofold: First, if during the burst you let off the trigger, the next time you pull it, you only get the remainder of that burst. Then you have to let off and pull again to get the full three rounds. This can work against the operator in an LE situation. Second, Gene Stoner IIRC did some testing that my personal experience bears out: Unless you are very experienced, with a three-round burst, the recoil after the first shot to center mass leads to a second round going over the head of the target, and the third round is around head-level (but only effective if you are still on-center). The fourth round in FA is back at center mass. So again for the lesser-trained staff, semi is better than 3-round burst unless your only goal is to keep the bad guy's heads down behind cover. Your Mileage May Vary. |
