Good evening,

I have been looking around for info for a good rifle that comes with threaded barrel. Looking for good accuracy but not a competitive shooter more for just playing with at ranch etc. Currently have two 10/22s but just want to add some variety. TIA

Pics welcomed

I don’t know about factory threaded.17hmr’s, but I have a Savage 93r17 that I had Morgan (he has a long thread in the ee section) cut/crown/thread for me. It’s an accurate rifle for the price. I paid more than what they go for now though. I think I saw the same rifle at Walmart for $200. By the time you add in sales tax, a cut/crown/threading + s&h you’re looking at around $300 plus optic of your choice. I epoxy bedded mine for less than $10, but it’s not that needed. I rarely shoot mine past 75yds, but I have shot out to 250 and it’s about 1 moa out to 150 with me shooting.  It’s just a squirrel rifle for me. I’m comfortable with headshots to around 75 and chest around 100 without any actual range finder and just judging distance by instinct. It’s an interesting suppressor host, but not a great tool. It’s too loud for what it is when comparing suppressed rifles. .22lr sv is stupid quiet and doesn’t have the best dead right there effect. .17hmr is about the same as an unsuppressed.22 and is not the most effective d.r.t. thing on larger size varmints at longer ranges. 5.56 isn’t that much louder than the.17hmr imo and you have longer range and more power for a little more noise. That’s why my .17 doesn’t get used except on squirrels when conditions justify the noise. I just couldn’t imagine using a centerfire rifle for squirrelshere , so the .17 is the most that I will use.

Have a look at a Steyr scout RFR or a ISSC SPA in .17

I tried several over the years and kept 2 Rugers. I have standard and Target. I put the Target in a Boyds At One stock.

Factory threaded
Superior magazines
Better than average trigger with a couple of coils removed from the spring
Good accuracy considering there is no match HMR and current ammo can have a wide spread in velocities

I have shots many hundreds of prairie dogs with my 2 Rugers and do not at all regret selling Marlin, Savage, CZ, and Browning. CZ was the hardest to let go of but the Ruger mags are just so much better for high volume shooting on the prairie.

Ruger American Rimfire Target 8350 if you prefer a laminate stock over the plastic of the 8336.

18" blued threaded barrel

Pretty mild with a SpecterII on the end

Forget all that other garbage. What you see now the cz 455. I have 3 of them. Best shooting rimfire I own. Consistently 1/2 “ at 100 with 17gr max. Excellent trigger. They also have a stainless version with a black nitrided bolt now. It’s sexy. And only like 400. Slay many gophers you will

My 455 is great.  They don't offer it from the factory in 17 HMR with a threaded barrel

True story. I have a local guy that chops and threads all my 455’s to sico spec for my specters and sparrows

I came here to post mine, it was everything I wanted in a factory package. I'm happy with it and would recommend.

Thanks for feedback fellas. I have experience with the ruger rotary mags, but how do the savage compare? Both rifles are almost identical in price was just wondering about mag reliability.

Savage mags stick out and have sharp corners. Reliability was fine.

If you ever want to put it on a sling avoid the Savage. The mags will gouge your skin if it goes across your back or side.

Savage b17 fvsr is the rifle you seek. Threaded bull barrel, accutrigger, uses flush fitting a17 ten round rotary mags, and can be had for less than $350

Went with the savage b17,  should get here soon. I'm assuming it uses same mag as the a17, correct?

Correct, it is quickly becoming one of my favorite guns. Have leveled 2 crows and a wood chuck so far.
