Not necessary but any grease will help the piston slide on the o-ring. Granted it blows out, and reduces sound while it is being expended so those are a negative and a positive.

Slip 2000 grease works much better than lithium.

Food grade silicone oil also works and is safe with blowback. Can be used to treat baffles for easier cleaning as well...
