I needed to get rid of the IR hitting the ground close in making a bright spot. The beam diffuser from Amazon for $11 does the job perfectly. Allows the beam to be focused on the horizon. Another beam diffuser  the sure fire f04 diffuser is also very good at dispersing the hot spot, but only good for close range. It will produce a very even light pattern. The beam diffuser Amazon $11, the sure fire $28. Here is what pattern the $11 beam diffuser produces. The pattern is the same using IR light.

Thanks. Good tip and good lead to a solution.
My favorite posts here deal with inexpensive solutions to the common problems.
None will bring on as sharp a series of rebukes from guys who think that it's wiser to spend your life savings when pocket change will do as well, though.
