Broadly speaking will these ring a gong at 200? I’m 99*/* sure these are from Wideners ages ago. Fixing to move and uncovered these. Lots of pistol bullets too but they don’t matter.

Yes.

Measure the diameter to get the caliber, weigh a few and average the weight to get the bullet weight.  Find some reloading data that matches the caliber, weight, and style.  Start low and work up checking for overpressure signs along the way.  Odds are that they will shoot fine unless there is a wide variation in diameter or weight.

Kind of thought so but wanted more opinions than just the voices in my head!

Thanks

Were they the "mil-surp" bullets that Wideners sold?  I have some 62 FMJ and some 175 308 HP bullets from them.  The latter were okay, not exactly a "match" bullet.  I remember finding one that was missing the lead core in one batch.

I vaguely recall they were made by PRVI.

I have a bunch of the 175's.  They work well but I would not buy more.

The bullet has a distinct "driving band" at the base of the top of the boat tail.  This is followed by a distinct taper as you go towards the tip.  There isn't really a straight section on the bullet.  This means after seating to magazine length, there is literally a tiny little gap between the case mouth and the bullet.  You can close it down with a crimp but,...

As I said, they are plenty accurate for my purposes - 30-06 for my M1.

They are not "junk".  Test some and see for yourself.

They’re still in sealed bags: pistol bullets, rifle bullets(223 & 308), unknown weights on any. I’ll have some fun this fall!

I don't know about what you have, but I buy "seconds" bullets all the time. So far so good.

Match rejects shoot better than fmj for less money. The choice is easy.

Pulled bullets get squeezed really hard and that buggers up the location of the ogive.  So the inconsistent ogives engage the rifling at different places and vary pressures, hence accuracy.  I would also suggest checking to make sure they aren't pulled bullets.

So should I give them a roll? I’m serious. They won’t hurt my rifle, right? Just hit all over the place?

If you really have no idea what they are then they at least need to be measured for diameter. They will most likely be fine.

I can almost swear the bullets described on that pink paper came from itchy trigger many years ago. The 223s look like Hornady. I’ll get some weights on the 308s tomorrow.

Unfortunately I've learned this the hard way.  Got a great deal on Berger 73's pulls - which normally are amazingly accurate bullets.  The pulls don't shoot anywhere near as good as new bullets; with flyers.  I think you're right - they use a collet to pull them (not kinetic), which does slightly deform the ogave.  With basic 55 FMJ and 62 gr pulls, for the most part you don't notice this effect.  But with higher quality bullets (and their often thinner jackets) it starts getting more profound.

They'll shoot fine for gong banging; just don't expect sub MOA performance.  But you should easily get 2 MOA or even a little better out of them; and that's plenty good for 4-6 MOA gong-banging.

I have weights on these; I'll post my worksheet in case anyone has questions this should suffice.

These weights are for ten each: sized at 308 and 224; all rolled smoothly.

I'm not sure when I will be loading them.

Forgot to mention the 308s were not from itchytrigger but were from Wideners. The 224s were from itchy trigger just north of downtown.

I asked a fellow club member(who shoots at another club at 1000 yds)and he told me match bullets will weigh exactly the same and be the same length. Crap, I never measured the lengths!

Let me know if someone is interested I'll do it.

Glad they made the trip.

I found more cases of ammo I want to sell and of course I needed pics so my loading shed is a wreck, coupled with the fact that some nincompoop smacked the power pole directly outside my back door in the middle of trying to take pics, load pics then wreck up my ad due to rule #1 it’s been a busy yesterday.

Pics will get posted.  Centerpoint(repair crew)was all over it but the popo never asked the driver for her cellphone. My neighbor is thinking texting while driving.

This car

not the driver just a passerby,

hit this pole, sending debris 40-50 feet beyond
.

And this is my work area with cases unshelved for pics and blocking my presses!

That's my goal. I'm applying for a full time job this morning(initial phone meet)and afterward another teleconference to update my company's website(not going to be pretty).

I do much better with little time on my hands. I always seem to find time to play with bullets!

Dryflash, let me know when you get some of those rounds lit off. If I can transfer my 'for sale ammo' to the garage then I can load a few up myself.
