During a callout the other night I had a weird problem with my PVS14. There was a lot of going back and forth with white light and NV so I used the rotary on/off switch a lot. Every time I powered off my PVS14, I flipped the monocular up to the stowed position. I don't rely on the auto-off feature.

At one point, I couldn't get the unit to turn back on. It took maybe 5 or 6 cycles of on/off with the switch to get it to turn back on. This only happened a couple times, but it really caused me some grief having equipment problems live. I haven't had this happen before. Is it possible a the switch that controls the auto-off when you flip up the PVS14 got stuck? Can I bypass this somehow?

My setup is a TNVC L3 unfilmed PVS14 with a Wilcox G11.

The first place I’d start is to disable any possibility that it could the auto-off feature goofing off on you.

Remove your USGI j-arm. Cut some small squares of electrical tape to cover the two contacts points besides the 1/4 x 20 threaded insert.

Thanks for the response. I do not currently have tape on the contacts so I'll give this a shot.

You can also disconnect the JArm and cycle the switch to see if the problem continues, the tape just isolates the contacts. On my Jarm I remove the spring contacts on the JArm all together since I have had the contacts wearing through the electrical tape overtime.

On a callout. Or standing on dangerous terrain.
It never fails to be when it hits.
Glad it worked out OK for you.

Thanks for the responses.

I ended up gutting the j-arm. No issues since.
