Found this in a private inventory. Built between January and August 1945 (679xxxx)…. Probably closer to January based on serial number. All large parts ( barrel, bolt, trigger assy, charging assy, stock are all Inland marked. The barrel is basically new and an Inland manufactured in 11-44.

Was told it was a WW2 bring back…. But that’s usually the story on them all but this guys father was no doubt a WW2 vet. Really curious if this is an original late war upgraded rifle.

Got it… a stack of mags, and 1200 rounds of new ammo for $1200.

My 1st M1 Carbine was an Inland, it was no where near as nice as yours!

A really great deal.   The rifle is worth $1200 by itself and the ammo is worth + .75 cents per round.  Cal .30 M1 Carbine in good condition are getting more and more difficult to find at a reasonable price.   She is a keeper for sure.

If the parts appear to have a similar finish, and similar handling and user wear, it may in fact be a bring back.    It may also be a purchase from the Civilian Marksmanship Program, or from a 1950's to 1960's small town hardware store.

Is there a P stamped on the barrel ahead of the bayonet lug?

Just curious as Inland did have the T3 barrel bands very late in the war.

Nice!  Then your rifle came with a T3 band on it from the factory.

With an 11-44 barrel date, that one should be hand stamped. Can you tell if the "1" in "Carbine M1" looks like it was part of the roll mark or stamped in by hand?

Yes… it’s hand stamped. Glad you pointed that out as I had not noticed. Thanks !!!!

Really happy with this gun as it appears to be as issued and brought home.

Must be a Monday or Friday stamp…. 😁

Here's what the other stamp looked like in 11-44

I have hand stamped M 1 #6785xxx with an Inland 1-45 barrel.  Your 1944 barrel is most likely just what the guy pulled out of the bin to assemble the rifle with.

Very nice. Not an expert, but I suspect that it might be worth more than what you paid.

Nice gun.

I believe the bayonet lug was a post war modification, so not a "bring back" Not that there was such a thing for US military weapons.

The bayonet lug was introduced late during the war as evidenced by this photo from Iwo Jima-

Also the OP was told it was a WWII bringback by the estate selling the Carbine. It's an excellent looking one and for the price 1 that many of us would have jumped on

Interesting! I was always told the bayonet lugs were a Korean war addition.

What's interesting is that Carbine looks to have a rear flip sight.

Looks too small to be adjustable IMO but I could be wrong

Well by Korea they had all been overhauled/ rebuilt to that spec, so yea it was a Korea thing as most in WW2 did not have them, but some did.
