Maybe you don't need to cut the 20" barrel

Cool! The 40th anniversary guns aren’t a faithful reproduction but they’re really neat and now a piece of history.

Don't cut the barrel! You can easily find someone who will trade you for a 16".

Also, does anyone know if those 40th anniversary guns have 1/2-28 thread?

And possibly $500 on top of that.

The barrels are also serialized to the receiver except on a very very few, but that’s a different story.

Buy an extra - you're going to ruin the value of it for future resale.   It was a limited edition, so make no irreversible mods.

I have an unfired OLD 20" barrel, manufactured by Steyr Austria.

In that case absolutely do not cut it down

That’s a pretty decent deal on one of those. I had a change to pick one up a couple years but didn’t and have been regretting it since.

As stated, DO NOT CHOP the barrel.

I don't need any more 20's, but would still trade you a new take off 1/2x28 16" with ODG grip just so you don't hack it up.

It seems the ribs below the scope weren't there on the early ones

The entire A3 M1 receiver interface is different than the earlier ones. It's different from the A3 also.

I have an A2 (which utilized a rather delicate interface) but I'd prefer an A1 for weight reduction.
