I bought a previously sporterized Swedish Mauser, which has 3 drilled and tapped holes for shitty See Thru scope mounts and a Simmons 22 scope. I want to mount a better scope and rings. Is it wise to plug these 3 holes, then drill 3 new holes for a 1 piece mount?

The rings mounted directly to the receiver. 2 screws in the front, one in the back.

Find someone to machine a mount from Picatinny stock that is contoured to fit the receiver and pick up the existing holes.

New holes would be my absolute last choice after exhausting other options.

Are the existing bases Weaver style with slots?

This is the way I'd do it.

There really aren’t any gunsmiths in my area. Are there any mail-order smiths who would do this work do you think?

Distance from back hole to middle hole is 4.27 inches. Distance from middle hole to front hole is 0.87 inches. Measured from front edge to front edge of the holes.

The mount is the same for mauser 95 and 98? Does that seem right?

I tossed the rings, but they look very similar to this. The rings themselves were a little different, but the base parts are just the same.

Does Nodak Spud take custom orders? I have one of their A1 lower receivers and it’s top notch.

Got it, I don't believe I have ever seen that version of the Weaver rings.  It's hard to believe they can still sell that junk.

Check this EGW mount:

http://www.egwguns.com/scope-mounts-rings/swedish-mauser-3-hole-for-stripper-clip-0-moa-picatinny-scope-mount-ambidextrous/

Mounting Hardware: Hex Head Screws and Wrench Provided
Center Spread: 4.275"
Overall Length of Mount: 6.670"

*The center spread is the distance between the two middle holes, center to center, on your receiver.

This mount is specifically for the Swedish Mauser with the stripper clip hump. This mount comes standard with a bevel on both sides making it ambidextrous.

All bases sit at approximately 0.4

Call EGW to get all of the dimensions.  EGW also sells this mount with 20 moa of elevation built in.

Would you look at that? They also have undrilled bases. I think that might be my solution.

By the way, can you identify the thread pitch of the holes? The machine screws have a major diameter of 0.137", and 7 threads in 0.167".

The CCOP mount is a qualified success. The holes line up, but I will have to cut a small relief on either the mount, or the receiver to clear the stripper clip guide.

And the screws are the correct diameter and pitch, so double win.

Got ‘er on. Just had to file a bit on the mount. It’s rock solid. The curvature is a perfect match to the receiver, and it mounts VERY solidly.

However, the Leupold Standard rings which I bought were too short to allow the bolt to clear the scope. Medium hight. I’ll be picking up a set of high and extra high rings tomorrow. Hopefully the high ones work. I’ll keep y’all updated.

Thanks for this thread! I'm in the same boat with a sporterized Mauser in 6.5x55, down to the same craptastic rings you had on yours. Glad you found a solution, I'm going to get some measurements on mine and see if that mount would work for
mine.
