Anyone here ever done it? I'm thinking about getting out there this season with my Finnish M39.

My Grandfather hunted for years with a sporterized Krag-Jorgenson. Use good ammo, zero your rifle, make a good shot. Good hunting!

For years I used a Enfield .303, never regretted it.

I used to take one of my RC 98Ks our hunting with me, if the weather was bad I’d take out one of my 91/30s

Now I barely have time to hunt, but I do have a Chinese T53 that I’d take out if I have nothing else

I'm using my Garand this year. Keeps it interesting.

Buddy used his SMLE for years and took a number of deer with it. He stepped up to an SKS years later and took a few with that.

I tried a few times with a Swede Mauser , but nothing came my way those days. I also used an M1a.

Hunted with my Enfield .303 for years as well.  Took many deer with it . . .

I have taken a deer and a pig with a 1896 Swede.  Very accurate rifle.  My eyes were a lot better then.

I once used my 96 chillien Mauser in 7*57 for deer hunt in Western me. This was the only rifle i had at the time. I did shoot a deer with it during a deer drive.

Bunch of times over the decades.  Started with a M1903, M1 Garand, FN49 (7x57), SKS, FAL and my M4 clone.  Did have a XM16E1 and M14 for couple trips to Kenya for protection from the big 5 (seen all)

I used a vz24 a number of years and killed quite a few deer and hogs with it.  Still my bad weather gun.

Killed my first whitetail with a Norinco SKS. Iron sights. Even had the bayonet mounted.

I’m in the process of selling off my last non-AR/AK/milsurp rifle... So yea, I only hunt with my milsurp now. I usually cycle thru them and take out a different rifle each trip...

- 91/30
- Faux-Mosin sniper
- 1903a3
- Faux-a4
- M39
- LE No4 MkI*
- LE No4 Mk2
- Faux-(T)
- K98
- M48
- 1912 Steyr
- K31
- K11
- S-R 1911

Probably the only one I never take out is my Garand.

Hunted with a K31 for the past 2 years, but haven't gotten a shot off. Took the No4 Mk1 out once, but the shot didn't connect.

Now a few people use sks.

Filled both my doe tags at the same time one year with my polish M-44 with iron sights.  Yes....they were running right at me.

bcd-43 K98.....It used to be my "wet weather" rifle till I could afford decent glass.

I also killed a bunch of deer with a OEM Chi-Com SKS and a few with a 7.7 Type 99 Japanese Arisaka.

With an unsportered milsurp?  No.  But I have a sporterized Enfield and a sporterized M96 Swedish Mauser that I have hunted with for many years.

My first deer rifle was a sporterized M1917 with a 4X Weaver on it.
My second deer rifle was an 03A4 with an old 2.5X Weaver on it.
My last deer rifle is an M1A with a 4X12 Bushnell on it.

If I were still deer hunting I'd be in the woods with my Dec. 44 M1 Garand with the scout scope mount and 2X7 LER scope on it.

One of the shows about Alaska on Discovery shows the one family that hunts with an M-39. They actually broke the stock on one in a snowmobile accident and bought another one.

Does a '03A3 sporterized circa 1950s count?

My first deer hunt I was armed with a Korean War-era M1 carbine with a magazine full of 110gr. JSPs. It had a stripe of bright paint down the upper handguard channel as a crude form of low-light sighting. I was 14 and thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen, though I didn't get a deer that year. My friend, whose dad took me on the hunting trip, nailed one with a Remington 742 in 30-06.

I've used:
Finn M39
Finn capture 91/30
refurbed 91/30, M38, and 91/59
Chinese SKS
Swede M96 and M38
M1 carbine

Didn't get something with all of them but had fun taking them out.

I used to hunt quite a bit with my 91-30. I’ve gotten a few deer and even a coyote with it. I’ve also gotten a black bear with my M38  Mosin. The 7.62x54r round is excellent for hunting.

I keep meaning to take a 91/30 out for coyotes sometime. Thanks for the reminder. I don't keep pelts so big holes won't be a problem.

I used to do it all the time.... killed deer with just about all the milsurps I own about 10 years ago. If you search I’m sure you can find my posts. I used the following:

1. M1 Garand (all I used to have)
2. Mauser 98k
3. Mosin 91/30
4. K-31
5. SKS
6. Colt 1911 (mfg 1917)

They all work just fine with appropriate ammo. The limitation is with the operator, not the hardware!
