The Hoffer Thompson training rifle was a full size 1903 with a .22 caliber barrel, full size normal chamber...

To teach and train in marksmanship and manual of arms, it utilized these special adapter cartridges....you loaded a .22 short into the adapter, then loaded the adapters into the rifle by hand or charger, and manipulated the rifle like normal. The central striker was hit by firing pin, and had an offset striker to hit rim of .22...

Only 3000 H-T rifles were made, and many of them destroyed...rare 03 variant...

The adapters sell for $80-$125 each!

How and where did you score all the adapters?

Sorry for the crappy pics. I was in a hurry and just tossed it up on the washer and dryer.

They made the entire rifle. It was officially the Gallery Practice Rifle, Caliber .22, Model of 1903. Major Jay E. Hoffer and Major John T. Thompson were both Ordnance officers at Springfield Armory. Thompson later designed a pretty nifty SMG. The Ordnance Department was very much an "Our way or No way" organization into the 1960's.
