Starting on another project for the G551k. G551k build  Wanted a 30rd mag but hate the ghetto look of 2 mags welded together.  Picked up a L4A1 Bren mag from liberty tree because they are pretty much the same outside diameter as HK/Cetme mags.

First I drilled out the 1000 spot welds on a cheap Cetme mag and removed the reinforcement.  So far it's just mocked up and will start welding it next week when I'm off work.  I also removed the mag catch tabs on the  bren mag.  After welding I will remive the brand feed lips and contour it with the Cetme reinforcement. I'll probably use the Cetme follower and spring, but will see how both work. I'll have to weld in tabs to stop the front if the follower, like the cetme mag, as I'll be removing the feeds lips that hold in the bren follower. Here's a few pics of it all and inserted into the G551k magwell

Why not just buy a 30 round cetme mag?

Besides being hard to find and expensive, I like building and modifying stuff. So why not mod a bren mag to work in my G551k?

G551k been mag is complete.  Ended up removing the reinforcement from a steel HK mag. Less spot welds and was stronger.  Had to Cut the front off the reinforcement and trim some off the rear of the bren mag and fit the rear of the reinforcement flush.  I ended up cutting 1/4" or so off the top of the bren mag and it's feed lips to make follower stop tabs.

The follower is a modified Cetme follower.  Cut the ears off the bottom, cut reliefs on the sides for the body ribs and trimmed maybe 1/8" off the front. Spring is a unmodified cetme mag spring and has really good tension.  It will hold 31rds if I force the last one. Ran 30rds through it and fed perfect, my G551k was having inssues with lite primer strikes on the 308 tulammo and the bolt gap changed with the #17 locking piece (ordered new rollers)

Overall I'm very happy with how it turned out. Eventually I'll sandblast it and reblue it or paint it. Test Video, note that I stopped filming after my G551k started having lots of lite primer strikes with 308 Tulammo and the new #17 LP which changed my bolt gap.

What a country had them for $35 for a good while. Sold out right now but you never know.

The 30 rd mags are South African in origin.
