I thought I had my mind made up on a BCM 12.5” kino but now I don’t know.

For the time being this is going to be a “pistol” but I have submitted my form 1 already.

Should I go cheap with a 10.5” PSA upper?

11.5” BCM?

12.5 kino?

I’ve even thrown around the idea of a 12.5 Wolf A1 upper.

How much less “blasty” would the 12.5” be over the 10.5”?

Future plans include a YHM Turbo can but that may be a ways down the road.

There is only one answer.

I have a ELW-F 11.5 BCM

I voted 10.5 PSA

If you’re going to go short, go all the way first. The “deadly” range with good ammo is still good for CQB distances, which is what this thing should be for anyway. If you want it as anything other than a range toy/CQB I would pick the 11.5 or 12.5.

You want to spend $200 stamping a lower and then go dirt cheap?

Chances are I’ll get another upper or trade it off after awhile anyways. I’ve had the same two lowers for years and I’ve put two dozen uppers on them.

I did the PSA 10.5” for mine. I figured that was about as short as I needed to go and not suffer accuracy at 100 yards. I also have an 8.5” BLK upper but the good thing is with the SBR lower you can put any length on and still be legal. Money no option I may have done a different brand but probably not a different length. Why go through the trouble of stamping a lower and then putting a 14.5” on it? Decide on a good length the check options in that size. Remember though, that will be the configuration you submit to ATF and if you decide to sell off the upper later for a different one you will need to file a perminant change form. The PSA will be cheap enough so later it will be more convent to just buy a new upper without selling the PSA.

This is wrong. There is no requirement that you retain possession of the original configuration, and there is no permanent change form.

I said get the 12.5". I have 7", 8.5" and 10.3" in 300blk and both the 11.5 BCM and 12.5 BCM Kino you are looking at. I don't like 223 below 10", I think 300blk or a PCC is a better fit for that. 11.5 and 12.5 are both great lengths for 223, short enough for SBR to be worth it and still very capable. The 11.5 is notably louder unsuppressed than the 12.5.

The form is a letter informing ATF of a perminant change. If you want to ever sell or transport across state lines then the configuration better match.

Some people on here may love for the ATF to crawl up their ass and spend thousands in lawyer fees to thumb their nose at ATF all over the difference between reccomended and required but I am taking the path that keeps me able to produce my registered configuration on demand if asked for it. You can make your own decision on how you interpret ATF definitions.

I voted 10.5” PSA. I just got one with the Geissele mk13 rail. I’m very happy for the price I paid.

11.5" BCM has served me well. Overgassed, but solved with gemtech SBC. Id get the new KMR MLOK rail over the A2 FSP.

Quite a bit, in my experience.    Not as bad as a longer barrel with a brake, either, if you have a FH on it.

I wouldn't consider 10.5 a toy. I also have an 11.5" BCM ELW-F upper and I just put together a 10.3" upper. I am liking the 10.3" much more. Seems to be doing everything the 11.5 was doing accept being longer. I have not noticed it being anymore blasty too suppressed or not and I think this has a lot to do with a properly tuned gas port.

I'm actually selling all my 11.5" uppers and going to stick with 10.3" and 16" as this covers all bases for me.
