I found this buried way back, I purchased it years ago.  Can someone tell me what caliber and quantity these two ammo cans are?   Thanks

I believe Polish x54r came in those types of cans. if you crack it open you can identify it with the headstamp here:

Thanks for your reply, and you may very well be correct. It’s just that I don’t want to open it up.   How many rounds do you think are in them?

Bulgarian? I remember having some 54r packaged like that

15 years ago. I had several ruptured cases where the failure

was a small crack near the rim when fired.

IIRC there are 300 rounds per tin.

ETA_ Found the pics..

I've mostly seen 440 rnd cans, but I'm sure they packaged them in other quantities too.

I think it's 7.62mm Tokrev ammo.

That’s possible.  I had both types packed away together

After looking around I tend to agree. The ammo I posted came in

a soldered tin similar to above but the "rip cord" on the tin was different.

Those above look like the end comes off and not the side like what

the ammo I posted above.

Did Tok come on strippers? I suppose it probably did right?

Czech Tokarev came on clips, but that's either Russian or Bulgarian ammo

That is not the ammo in the OP, what you posted is Albanian 54R (headstamp, folds in the shoulder and the packaging are a give away). And yes, those splits at the base of the casing are nasty and will blow gas back into your face.

ETA, I agree the ammo in the OP is Bulgarian, I had several of those 300 round tins of 54R and I recall some people got it on stripper clips and others didn't, I don't know how to tell which is which. It came in light ball and heavy ball, the heavy ball tins had a painted yellow stripe on them and the bullets had a yellow tip. I suppose this could be 7.62x25 as well since they both came in the same type of tin.

This is tough. I want to sell this ammo but I’m not sure how to advertise it as 54R or Tokarev ammo. I hate to open them up to find out

Found this online so maybe it is Tokarev ammo

Bulgarian Light ball brass case, packed in 10 round packs. Can tell you that much from the can.

Should be 54r, unfortunately they put the important info like count on the crate not their cans back then. Should be 300, but some of the ones on clips were only 250.

Could always deduct an answer from weigh counting it. 300 rounds of 54r should be a good 5lbs or so lighter then 800 rounds of x25 just from the bullet weight.

Ok, so Bulgarian 54R.
Damn commies. I can just picture Ivan arguing with his buddies, while the Nazis are attacking, on which can to open

Bought a can just like the one on the bottom of OP's pics.

The markings were so faint I couldn't read them.

Opened the can with the pull tab and there were 300 brass cased light ball 7.62x54R cartridges in 10 round paper packs inside.

I had a similar looking metal tin....years ago, inside was 7.62x54r in stripper clips and packed in individual folded thin cardboard type and string tied.
If you noticed the black marker writing says "stripper clip" on your tin can.   Not sure if tokarev ammo came in stripper clips, correct me if I'm wrong.  I may have some old pics of the can...if I can find them.

OP, search "spam can opening of 7.62x25 tokarev" on you tube.  Very similar markings on your 2nd pic.
