I own a PVS-14 and a helmet with a shroud with the dovetail type of mount.
I am getting a FLIR Breach and I have lurked around here seeing it looks like it can be used in conjunction with my PVS-14.
Question:
Which mount to use so I get a PVS-14 on one side and the Breach on the other.
I want the mount to be separate, in that I can swing down the 14 or the Breach or both.
Is this possible ? If so which mount do I use ?
Also, which side for the 14 (Right side) and which side for the Breach (Left side) ?
I would also love to hear from the users here whether or not to do this as opposed to just using the 14 and the Breach as a handheld unit.
Basically what are the pros and the cons of having a dual set up.
Thanks for looking ! - Taft

A head mounted thermal (HMT) can be very useful if your intent is scanning for longer durations and in particular with a purpose such as hunting animals at night. Similarly this can apply to an over watch role as well.
It can be hard on the eye to stare at the screen for too long but say in over watch you're scanning occasionally by rotating the thermal up/down on the bridge or using it handheld with a QD bridge, with HMT if you find something you can observe for a long time more comfortably and are mobile. Holding a thermal up to your face gets old if time starts dragging on and it can be a PITA to carrying and repositioning it on a tripod.
If you don't really have a regular purpose for the thermal and you'll only be scanning every now & then there isn't a major benefit to keep it on your head. It adds weight and extra cost.
My recommendation to folks is to go HMT for reasons such as above and not purely to try and get a "fusion" type of capability. If you go HMT and can overlay the images then awesome! If not, you still have a use for it.
