Working @ my buddy's gun shop starting next week, been a minute since I was selling retail guns.  Anyone have a link to a .pdf or YouTube that I can review?

I know what a straw purchaser is, just been a few years since I was doing it.

Rule #1 - clear the gun before handing it to the customer.

Rule #2 - keep a gun in the customer's hands until they buy it, asks for another one, or walks away muttering about their spouse...

Slide the door on the showcase closed as soon as possible.
Only takes a second for somebody to lean over the case a grab a handgun.

When somebody that don't look like a paying customer comes in, the best thing to do is approach them and ask if you can help them.
They are checking for you to be distracted so they can steal or worse yet rob the store.
By approaching them you screw up their plan, see that the store isn't a soft target and leave.

This right here had it happen to us we held the guy until the police arrived . Also have a tag for every gun and remove tags after the sale . It helps you to scan the case for something missing when wrapping up with a customer.

I have worked in a couple of different stores when buddies needed help during sick season or vacation season.  Need to keep your head on a swivel, and have good vigilance at all times.

Neither of the stores I have worked in let more than one gun out of the case per salesman and you were to lock the case before opening the action and making sure to clear the gun, if there were two standing at the counter, you asked for help or explained to the second customer you would be right with them once finished with the current customer.  Both stores had locking cases like jewelry stores, so you opened, grabbed the gun customer was interested in and then closed and locked it.

We all carried keys to the various counters for guns and jewelry in the one pawn shop I help out with.

If the customer purchased, we escorted them to their car. and then thanked them for their business.

One of my buddies store, we had the ability to lock the exit door with the push of a button if something was missing while we were at the gun or jewelry case

But the most important thing was vigilance and just paying attention at all times.

Have fun.

Had 2 no-sales yesterday.

One was a black couple asking about the FN 57.  Fella did all the talking, I was pitching it, velocity #s, etc.  I'm a fan of the cartridge.  Decision was made to get it - suddenly, it's her gun.

Yeah, sir, I'm gonna need your driver's license and you're gonna fill out the paperwork.  Suddenly they didn't want it.  Uh huh.

Other was an older white guy from Kansas, not my sale, buying our plastic Judge.  Uh, sir, you from Kansas?  Yeah, just working down here.  This is a much better price than I get back home.

Sir, I can sell you any rifle or shotgun in the house, I can't sell you a handgun.  Blame Lyndon Johnson.

You should have offered to sell it to him, and he can pay shipping to his receiving FFL in his home state. I've never had anyone actually accept that offer, but you never know.

99.99% don't. Go ahead, make my day.

Seriously, you should get your training from your employer.

Lol, training?  Explain how you would train a new employee this week.

Welcome to your local apocolypse gun store.

20 rounds of 9x19 for $350, comes w/ a free gun.

I am glad you found work. Lots aren't going to.

If I were to give any advice to new employee thrown into the fire, it would be read all the instructions on the 4473 until you can recite them. Then ask here if you need clarification on any points.

Virtually everything you need to know about a transaction is right there on the 4473.

I too, am surprised your employer didn't train you. You mess up, its his FFL at risk.
