What’s the standard go to, 2 point sling?
I have about 4-5 ARs and Shotguns that need Slings. Don’t really want anything expensive or complicated. |
|
I've tried a bunch. V-Tac padded is the best of the bunch to me. I have no complaint at all with it.

Magpul MS-1 for me w/their QDM swivels. Been using them for years and never had a problem (apparently they now offer a padded version as well).

GI silent sling or IDF.
if you want it to be quickly adjustable then BFG Vickers sling. |
|
|
Blue force gear vickers for me. Vtac would be my second choice

I have the VTac padded that I swap between rifles. I also have the Proctor sling that's a good minimalistic sling. I noticed it's almost doubled in price from when I got mine.

I've used padded and non-padded VTAC slings heavily for years and they are my overall favorite.
If you want a little bit cheaper, the BFG Vickers is more or less the same functionality, with plastic hardware. If you like slimmer, lighter slings you could try the Haley stuff, I've used one on an M4 for a while, and then on a shotty for a bit. Some of the other guys here use Magpul and SierraTac and seem to like both of those. The new T-Rex sling is cool in that you can reverse the direction of your adjustment 'throw', which I think actually makes more sense. But I haven't used one yet. The Proctor has been on my list to try for ages but I haven't gotten to it, like the idea. If you're picking them up for multiple guns, I would suggest narrowing it down, buy the two you like the most and try them out, the market is healthy enough these days there's not much risk in selling stuff like slings. |

G.I. on my 20" A4
Magpul MS-1 on the AR pistol. ETA: If I had to carry my A4 all the time, everywhere again, I'd grab the 3 point I used on all my deployments. |
|
BFG Vickers 221 non-padded. Converts from 2-point to single if needed. Killer gear. My fav BFG and I've tried most of them over the years.

I ordered these and liked them so much I got a second pair

Homemade VTACs.
Buy nearly all the hardware from Strapworks and those ALICE adjustment buckles from Milspec Monkey or Jontay and you're good to go for less than half the money of a commercial one. |

I had been using mostly GI slings on my rifles, but I ordered a Vickers recently and really like it.

Specific 2-Point Sling info: 2-Point Sling Info Critique/Hit piece on 3-Point slings: 3-point Sling info No expert, but I watched all of these vids, and learned a surprising amount, proving again the validity of the old saying: "You Don't Know What You Don't Know". Possibly others will find them as informative as did I. |

Quoted: Padded VCAS is my go-to. But the 221 looks interesting... @PBIR but why non-padded? View Quote Just a subjective thing. I want my sling as streamlined as possible. The 221 is about as good as it gets for a 2 to 1 sling, but the pad just makes it too bulky for my setup and preference. |

Quoted: I ordered these and liked them so much I got a second pair View Quote Would recommend not rewarding Chinese intellectual property theft by buying identical knockoffs of American designed and made products. They can't even be bothered to use their own photos. That Amazon ad just re-uses MagPul's own product photos and blurs out the company labels. Plenty of other decent affordable slings. And if your budget really is tight enough that you want something made in China, at least buy a Chinese product that isn't a blatant exact knockoff of a reputable American company's product. |

I swapped all my VCAS slings to the B-Sling from Sheriff of Baghdad (John McPhee)...I love the ease of loosening it up when you need to deploy it, but can scrunch it down when you have to.

USGI General Purpose strap attached with paracord is by far my favorite sling.

I'd be cautious about cheap metal used for the QD points where they could contract and fail in the cold. I had two of these, one with the QD and one with the magpul style clips. I no longer have 2 The adapter that allows you to attach QD to make it a one point sling broke right at the QD cup. This was inside my home, not even cold weather. The magpul clips did not clip on tight enough and would slip off whatever they were clipped to, even in the lock position. Wouldn’t trust them for hard/serious use at all. I repurposed the webbing with some quality hardware and now they are on light use rifles. I recently got a grey ghost sd gts (?) sling and almost love it. Super lightweight and thin which is what I wanted, but the adjustment is less than Ideal. Very easy to make sling looser, not as easy to tighten. The material they use is excellent, super strong and thin. Missed the mark slightly on execution. I will probably swap the hardware to get it to tighten easier. |

Relatively inexpensive and non complicated = Frank Proctor sling
|

Proctor is my favorite. Everything else is too bulky and has buckles and adjusters and pull tabs and shit all over it. If you're going to be patrolling with your heavy rifle all day everyday then a padded might be nice..

This is what I'm running. I've had it for a couple of months now and I'm loving it and it didn't cost nearly as much as a Magpul or VTAC.

I have a padded Vickers and just bought a Slingster
The Vickers is thicker and requires much more effort to slide, the Slingster has the metal slide and it's effortless.. it's actually jarring coming from a Vickers where you have to muscle the slide and the Slingster just zips forwards and backwards. Not sure I like it and it's so radically different in operation I think one would only use one type or the other. I've never used this company before but they get rave reviews from Reddit War Horse Concepts makes a non Padded slightly modified Slickster. They uses the exact same slider the Slingster does and they run around 40.00 depending on the pattern you choose. Be aware that metal slide can scratch up your rifle and prevent you from getting the best Instagram picture possible. |

View Quote Thanks 2apatriot. I like something lightweight. It seems so many options are overkill in the heft department. |
