I need a "go be poor somewhere else" folding knife..... I have a CRKT m16-something something, sub $25-30 and its been great but nearing end of life after 15+ years. what brands are still good or better now? for the $ of course. I am pretty hard on my EDC knife, what do you recomend?

Spyderco Amalgam. It’s my new favorite.

I carried a Spyderco Military for years, and it’s a great knife with a strong following. It’s tough, holds an edge well and is so light you’ll forget its there.

The Spyderco Endura is also a good blade that you don’t have to break the bank for. Carried one of those off and on since the 1990s, and still rotate one or two into my EDC from week to week.

My Ontario Rat treats me good.  I bought a bonus pack that had a serrated and straight edge for like $39 for both.

I have several CRKT folders that have been great. As mentioned above, the Rat knives are good. I should pick one of those up to try. Only here good things about the Rat Folders. Some have D2 steel.

They're hard to sharpen with D2. And they do get corrosion/stains on them. I have 2 of those and 2 ESEE Avispas all in D2. The Avispa is very similar but is much slimmer because it is a frame lock design.

I've had really good luck with some Kershaw Cyros.  I'm able to get them for about $30 to $35, they hold up well for EDC use and if something happens to it the price point is such I can replace it without any heartburn.  I replaced all my old CRTKs with Kershaws and couldn't be happier.

I got one of these two years ago and really like it (before benchmade got all political...)

I'm warming up to a new Spyderco Para Military 2 but still love my Rat 1 with D2 steel. The Rat1 is a quality "take a beating" EDC folder for $40. The $120+ PM2 is still on Amazon box-opening duty, which it is very good at.

If love to see pics of a 30+ year old pocket knife that's been carried and used the whole time.

Buck 110 Slim Pro.  It has great s30v steel, holds an edge, American made, good stuff.  I’ve carried mine for a year, great blade length.

For really hard use, the ZT301 I had was STOUT!  However, this came at the cost of weight and price.  It was simply too heavy for me to EDC.

My current EDC is a Spyderco PM2.  It’s a great knife, but I feel like it’s a little over priced.

chineseum $20 knife off Amazon after benchmade BS. D2 steel and a quick flick nub on the back make it my daily carry abuser.

EF got caught lying about their steels. More than likely it's 8cr not d2. Just a FYI

I rotate between a few knives, something catches my eye and I carry that until the next knife comes on.

Lately it's been a Spyderco Para 3 in s110v, they run about 140 ish. The Para 3 lightweight is about 95 bucks right now. I'd consider the Para 3 or the bigger Paramilitary 2 some of the best hard usage folders.I like the size of the Para 3, fits well in my EDC.  I usually just strop mine every once in a while and it stays very sharp. I had to clean mine this week as it had pine needles and tree sap in it.

Also in my pocket is a Ontario Rat II in D2 steel. It's cheap enough that I don't worry about loosing it or damaging it. Great little knife for around 40 dollars. I have a few of them and have been beating them up for 3 or 4 years now. They make good gifts too...

Oh well it was $20 i'm sure it will be fine. If not at least it will be easier to sharpen. I like the size and shape of it. It's a replacement for a benchmade 710 I lost. I really like the 710 but they are not made anymore and this is the closest I've found to it.

For $20 you can't go wrong. I will use a $20 knife in a fashion I wouldn't use a $100 knife

I am kind of in the same boat, I carried a crkt Convergence but the flip out assist just broke and I have been carring around a ZT301 but it is bigger, I am down to a SOG Trident and a Boker AK47. I do love the crkt Convergence though I have never need to re sharpen it yet. Not sure what will replace it but I know there will be some good black friday deals, that's how I got the ZT, it was someone on here a few years ago that linked it to Amazon for around 150.
