I built a .22 AR for my daughter and it wouldnt be complete with out a girly camo job. I ordered a dip kit off amazon from southern Hydrographics.

Here's some pics of the process.

O.S.T. want to "refinish" a few guns myself...

What will you use for the "Tank" to hold the transfer for the dip?

Hope it turns out GREAT!

I'm calling it a success. The bottom side of the rail didn't turn out and the bottom of the shoulder stock has a thin line of missing camo but over all it came out way better then I expected for a first attempt.

It still needs the clear coat but I have to go to work. Will finish it tomorrow.

I used a cooler and a storage tote for the water tanks.

I want to shoot that thing next time we're at the range

I might try this on a beater gun

Did you practice in any other material first or go head first into the rifle?

Head first.

I didn't have enough material to experiment.

Me too. Maybe do a Glock frame or something first before diving in to AR parts.

Op did you just buy one kit or meter? Or did you need multiple?

How did you know how much material would be needed for each piece?

I just bought one kit. To do the stock I had to stitch 2 pieces of the film together. Because the the erratic nature of the pattern you can't tell though.

I laid the parts out in the film to measure how much i'd need for each part. Basically I guessed.

How much extra of the sprays do you have? Enough for a few jobs?  Trying to decide if a kit will get more than one use. Looks like the film itself is pretty inexpensive

I used all of the primer, base color and the clear coat doing multiple passes. I Still have at least 3/4 of a can of the activator.

The activator will do multiple jobs and I'm pretty sure a quality primer and spray paint can be had cheaper at the home improvement store.

I may have spent a good portion of the afternoon and evening watching dip videos.

Now I need to decide what to try and dip

I am very interested in giving this stuff a try. While there are a ton of youtube videos about it, I have not seen a lot of coverage of the technique in gun magazines.

I've seen several videos of people using just regular spray paint on water. Looks kinda cool.

I want to try it myself as well.
