Gentlemen, I come to you now after a lot of internet scouring, looking for a definitive answer.

I am working on developing a 308 round for my SCAR 17 SBR 13" barrel, with a similar concept to the Mk319 concept. In order to do that, I need a fast burning powder. I don't really have the budget to try a whole slew of different powders and round combinations, so this is where you guys come in. I just need a couple proven, fast burning powders for a 110 to 130 gr 30 cal round. Preferably nothing too flashy.

I've read that H335 could be good for this.

Thanks for your assistance!

H 322 will do it and very accurately also.

don't discount 8208xbr either. also get better temp stability. oh and H335 is the king of "flashy"

I use H322 for 125 gr 308 Speer TNT in my 308AR, shoot well. 1 hole at 50 yds. Not load sensitive as well, shoot well 40-42 gr. Open up a bit at 42.5 gr. I stopped at 43.5 gr. My 308 bolt gun prefers 168 gr HPBT with H4895/IMR4064, but shoots OK with H322 and TNT.

I second XBR 8208.

One of my favorite 308 and 223 powders.

Been using 8208 for my 12.5 inch barreled 308 AR for a couple years. I like a powder that I can use on multiple calibers. My Grendel likes it too.

OP- are you chasing velocity or accuracy?

IMR-3031 is another.

It's not going to make a big difference what powder you use. Something like BL-C (2) or AA2520 will create more concussion, muzzle flash and blast. The problem is your barrel is approximately half the normal length to get the most efficiency from this caliber. A good muzzle brake will help with recoil and slower burning powders actually help the muzzle brake become more efficient. It also increases the obnoxiousness of an already short barrel.

I would suggest trying Sierra's 135 grain Match King bullets with H322 or IMR-3031. At least they will get a decent velocity, have the same B.C. as 147 grain M80 ball and provide excellent accuracy. I only run SBR's with 9mm and 5.56mm simply because the larger calibers kind of defeat the purpose of a close quarters rifle. Recoil and muzzle blast aren't pleasant with a 5.56mm in a confined space, I can't imagine a .308 in a hallway.

took me awhile to find it again but this article is pretty good and gave me good insight when I was doing my "shorties" (only 16 and 18.5)

Self defense load, so velocity would be over accuracy. Matching the powder with TSX bullets

getting 2730 w/ the TTSX our of a 16 and 8208. I could go faster, but I feel safe / happy here. these puppies are surprisingly accurate. solutions say that this load should be 2495 fps at 100, 2000 fps at 330 yds.

out of a 13", I am guestimating 2423 at 100, 2000 at 290 yds which is good enough for hunting - more than enough for self defense

If it were me, I would buy AA 2015, it's cheap, with that weight bullet, you'll use about 40gr's of powder, it's faster than h-335, it measures great, you can find it

when you can't find h-335 like now again for some reason. I use it in my ar's, 30-30 with light bullets, 308 with light bullets, the stuff is awesome.

Edit: I like the Speer 130gr hot cor from Graf's, cheap under $20 for a hun.
