FLIR SCION 640 BOSON Thermal Video Camera/Hand Scanner was delivered by the brown UPS truck last night!

Here is a comparison in size to my old well used FLIR LS-XR scanner:

No. mine is the larger FOV 18mm lens without manual objective focus.

Based on using it in my 600 yard horse pasture last night, I am certain I can positive ID hogs and coyotes out past 300 yards with it and detect 3X that.

For longer ranges like in a 640 acre peanut patch, the 25mm manual focus would be better. Also, in extremely humid conditions, the 25mm would gather more midwave IR data.

Thanks

Do you have an opinion on how well it maintains its clarity when you zoom up through the highest zoom levels?

The last Flir scout I looked through a couple years ago, seems like they made a significant improvement in its ability to maintain resolution and clear image through the first and even second zoom level.

Does this one do the same?

2x and 4X zoom and PIP work excellent, 8X zoom is pretty grainy though.

This is a 12 micron 640 Boson microbolometer, not a Quark or TAU2, it puts out similar to BAE 12 micron core.

It is totally different than the LCD screens in the previous Scout and LS series hand scanners.

It has a glass PVS-14 like ocular with rotational diopter adjustments and much better eye relief.

The display is high definition Quad-VGA 1280X960 pixel screen.

Image quality and resolution is outstanding in all palettes.

Purchased it direct from FLIR Systems, Inc. 27700 SW Parkway Avenue, Wilsonville, OR 97070 USA

Total $2,995

https://cart.flir.com/us#/cart

I would imagine FLIR authorized dealers like TNVC and P&R Infrared should have them too.

It has the same 12 micron  Boson microbolometer as the Breach, only instead of the Breach’s 320 core it is a 640 core, thereby giving it 4X the resolution.

Here is a 40kb pic of a deer at 200 yards in my yard at night @2X with PIP, it is 88 degrees and humidity is 90% dripping wet out....does not do justice to the displayed image.

That is amazing! 24° × 18° FOV.

Is there any way to attach it to a helmet like a breach?

I love FOV too!

No way to helmet mount it like my FLIR M-24 640 kit.

But I can mount it on my camera tripod and plug my little Anker 27,000 mAhr into its USB-C port and scan all night.

Yup, my 27,000 mAhr Anker plugs right in to the USB-C power port to run it for days at a time.

Due to super saturated high humidity and oppressive heat and the impending hurricane, videos will be postponed until I get some decent WiFi, rural farm wireless can’t hack posting videos.

Does it really take six CR123A batteries? It looks like it can run on just two but still...what a hog.

You can run it off two, four, or six CR123 batteries, or just plug a 27,000 Anker to the USB-C plug and leave it on for a week or two.
