UPDATE- Bought a box of the Spire Point and a box of the FMJ Hornady 150gr.  from Midway.  Thanks for the replies!!

I'd like to load up some 300 AAC rounds.  Nothing fancy, just FMJ to hit the range and make the gun more than the paperweight it currently is.

Already have the saw, dies, powder/primers, etc.  Have a mold to but I'm still working on it.  Anyway..... suggestions on bullets to grab in the mean time?

Thanks!

Bullet seconds?  What is that?

I see OP has .30's for .58/ea.

Thanks

Never heard of "seconds" bullet sales at Midway?

Nope.  But then again, aside from the 110g black tips I bought a couple months back, never bought just bullets from Midway.

Thanks for the info.

Sounds like we may have a winner!

EDIT:  For an extra $5 are the Spire Points going to give any better performance if used outside of the range?  While it's not the intention, just curious.

American Reloading

has anyone tried the 125g HP from American Reloading? I just purchased some but haven't tried them yet. At 17 cents each, shipped. Seems like an inexpensive plinking round.

Maybe my math is off but 500 for $100 comes out to .20.  Plus tax so about .21.  So still a good deal but not .17.  Or does the price go down if you order more?  In for some experience and this may need it's own thread as the cheapest jacketed option out there.

Thanks

Use the 15% discount code. $84.99 shipped to your door. The discount code is at the top of the page and it's also provided to you at checkout. I was not charged any tax. It's funny how they say it's one price but then have a perpetual discount.

I'm not sure if this is a brand new company or what but I can't find ANY vids/reviews of these bullets!  Not one.  What gives??

Thanks

EDIT:  Tried to use the ' projo15 ' voucher (coupon) code and I get an error message saying it's already been used.....still at $99 for 500.  Something's not smelling right here....

American Reloading is GTG.

They’re selling pulls.

Read the description.

Ahh ok, that makes sense why they are so cheap.

Still doesn't explain why no vids/reviews and why the coupon code yielded a weird response.

I'm not sure why the promo code didn't work for you. I've ordered several times over the past few months without a problem, promo code and all. For pulls they were bright and shiny without any marks. I'm new to reloading so I figured this was a cheap way to get started. As for quality, I'll let you know when I reload some. Several members on another forum swear by American Reloading and pointed me in their direction.

"There is 1 error

This voucher has already been used"

That is what shows up in red at the top of the page when I enter the code into the "voucher" blank.

Also, the 147gr bullets are $92.99 for 500 so even cheaper.  But maybe the 125gr is more desirable for the 300 AAC.....?

Reached out to American Reloading.  They say to allow 2-3 business days for a response but in their generic/instant response email they say.... "Voucher codes - If you didn't add the code and are needing the discount just send us your order number and we will take care of you.  Allow 3-4 business days for this to process.  You will receive an email confirmation from AR and Authorize.net when this is complete."

So I guess I can buy the 125gr and/or the 147gr and just email them afterward with the order number for the discount.  That only leaves the question....for someone that has never shot 300 AAC....what's the difference between 125 and 147 grain bullets?  I guess I should also check my shiny new Lyman 50th.

Thanks

125 gr bullets are more suitable for super sonic loads. Higher velocity, more accurate.

The 147's work ok for plinkers, recoil is increased and it's hard to find a better shooting, low cost bullet that Speer's .308 125 gr TNT.

When you can find them. When they become available they are normally mentioned in the "where to find" thread as they are popular.

Sierra also makes a good 125 and 135 gr bullet, Hornady makes a very good 130 gr Spire point.

Great info as usual flash.  I'll go with the 125gr.  Just need to make sure my manual has a good recipe for it.

Thanks

I like 147-150grain FMJs for casual shooting, but the 110-120 grain spitzer bullets are better for just about everything.

Sierra's 110 grain hollow point Varminter (product 2110) is a great choice.  It's easy to get a flat-shooting load with it, and it's extremely consistent.  Hornady has several similar bullets, including the GMX, the V-Max, and the SST.  This class of bullet runs for around 18-25¢ each.
