I have a few 1903s and always wanted a pre WWI dated 1903, they both look like original finish and anything under 1000 seems fair to me (I know plenty about pre 800k serial numbers) — the font is cool on the 200k model, old school

What do you think of these 2? It’s the first 2 I’ve seen in a while that are in decent condition from 1907-1910, I don’t know a ton about the markings, etc

One is about to end so quick info is appreciated!!! Thanks

Thanks, any other info? Finish seems original to me, but with that much wear I assume the barrel is completely shot out without a replacement

Technically both are unsafe to shoot.

Here is the SRS info.

First rifle: 273944

273934     032825FAIRMOUNT COLLEGE
273961     040532MASSACHUSETTS

Second rifle: 386171

368141     032410WRA CO (REPAIRED)

I really like the character and finish on the first rifle.

First rifle is Greek return loaner rifle that was through a WW2 rebuild.

Round rear sight collar with no lightening cut flats
Scant replacement stock for WW2
All the tell tale greek markings like sn last 4 added to stock
I may be wrong and I will go back and take a look, one of the rear sight notches was filed open. Nope just in a bit of a shadow.
decidedly not the original finish, likely a US repark though as opposed to a Greek armory black park job.

Second rifle to me almost looks like an aged chrome or nickel finish.  I was doubting myself until I looked at the silver on the front sight base in contrast to the blued front sight blade.  I speculate it was a dolled up honor guard gun at one point.  Dried oil stain over chrome on the receiver. Nope, description down below says it was scrubbed off.  Rust or was getting ready to reblur but that explains the shiny silver look.  That looked way more than wear and patina.

No big value in either.   The second rifle, the one scrubbed, I’d reblue it.  F it, it was steel wooded off, no less valued now.

I’d be real cautious without seeing the bore condition on either rifle.

Closest seriel numbers to those in the Springfield Rifle data base.   Usually nothing but once in a while a hit.  Any inference on nearby serial numbers is just that usually.
