Is it needed for general gunsmithing?

Or will a regular torque wrench be just fine?

Dual direction "click" style torque wrenches are used for screw/bolts with left-hand threads. I doubt you will find very many left-hand thread screws in the firearms you will be working on.

They are also used to check the torque of already installed fasteners.
