Well, I finally got a 3D printer and completed my first project. Replacing the thumbhole stock on my Daewoo DR200. Wanted to keep the original K2 look without the complexity of the folding mechanism. Granted, this is printed in PLA, so its not really functional, more of a prototype. It took 6 prints of the interface to the receiver, to get it right. Its still not correct, but a  work in progress. Need to lower the comb of the stock for a better cheek weld and sight alignment; and make the butt plate a little wider. Next is to print in either Glass or Carbon Fiber filled filament. Not quite ready for that, yet. Here are a series of pics showing the progression.

Now that is cool!

why not make an adaptor for a ACR stock?

OP - Looks great!  The K2 stock really looks classic on these and your idea brings out the K2 without adding the "aftermarket"-like look.

The ACR stock is very cool, at least the Magpul version. However, I wanted to keep the K2 look, best I could.

I have already modified the design, just a bit, to get the cheek weld/sight picture, right. And beefed up the butt-plate. The current stock comb is about 10mm too high! Will print once again in PLA.

Maybe StormWerkz could make one out of Alum?

What program did you do the design in? I've been using Fusion 360 but have been toying with the idea of trying out some other programs.

I'm using Solidworks 2019. If your a Student or Veteran, its only $20 per year, Full Version. You do however get the "For Educational Purposes" water mark on all prints.

Whoa, I didn't realize that. A reason I stayed away from Solidworks was the cost. I'll have to give that a go. Thanks!

Made some revisions:

1. Lowered stock comb by 5mm
2. Increased length of pull by 10mm
3. Increased narrow portion of stock by 5mm
4. Re-formed curves on back end
5. Added .5 Degree Draft from front to rear (i.e. Rear is slightly wider than front)
6. Printed in ABS, 20% infill everywhere (what a pain!)

Feels better. The ABS sands better than PLA, also!

Cool! Any chance you would be willing to post up the .STL files?

Hear Hear!

I would be in need of one these as well.  And it would be cool to form the end of the stock to mirror an AR/M16 so a butt plate could be added.

Actually, I thought about that. Will need some SolidWorks help to make that happen. Couldn't figure it out on my own? Will keep trying.

Next Iteration, A2 Trap Door Butt Plate with storage compartment. Took multiple test prints to get the interface correct. Looks good as a model. NOT looking forward to printing again with ABS. I decided to keep the sling swivel as it simplifies the print, no need to embed another nut during print. Used the same concept for the top screw which would normally secure into the buffer tube, also simpler. The storage compartment complicates my previous split with square alum tube assembly. Will need to consider where to split for print and how to reattach. Here are some pics and snippets.

Let me know what you think.

A few more pics of the butt plate interface. Had to go deeper and wider for the sling swivel to align with the screw. The A2 buttstock has a generous taper at that point, where my stock does not.

May try to print this weekend

Printed the back half of the stock in ABS, this past weekend. Successful print however, several problems.

Material: Inland ABS
Nozzle Temp: 240
Bed Temp: 110
Infill: 40%
Supports: Everywhere touching plate
Bed Adhesion: Raft w/glue stick

The butt plate interface warped severely, you can see it with the naked eye. Very evident when I try to attach the butt plate.  I could see the raft pulling up as the print progressed, decided to let it go. Didn't have this problem with PLA.

Cleaning out the support material was a huge pain! A dual head printer with water soluble support material would be ideal required!.

I was able to tighten both bolts, effectively drawing the butt plate flush with the stock. The stock cracked right where the sling swivel hole is!!!

All that said, I really like the concept, need to work on the execution. Thinking PET vs ABS???

Nicely done. More I watch this thread the more I want to try 3D printing again.

Here is the nearly finished stock. Still need to  Acetone Smooth and sand. Really hate the seams, wish I had a printer large enough to do in one piece, would need 310mm on Z.

Because I had so much trouble with warpage at the build plate, I added 2mm to each surface touching the build plate. I then sanded these surfaces flat and to match up the contour. An added  benefit was exposing "cubic" structure, adding to gluing surface area. Used JB Weld, 2 part, 5 min epoxy, clear.  Gaining a storage compartment meant loosing the full length 15x15mm tube for reinforcement. Now there is only a very short 15x15 segment in the front joint. The rear seam had a lot of gluing surface, and both seams has two dowel pins. Not sure if this stock is truly functional, but the design is getting better. Would probably cost several hundred dollars to have someone print in one piece with Carbon Fiber Nylon filament and inserted nut?

Here it is after Acetone smoothing and sanding. Also tried to fill in some gaps with ABS slurry, prior to smoothing, wish I didn't. Thinking about painting flat black to match rest of furniture.

Any recommendations on paint for ABS?

Krylon Fusion Matte Black

Not happy with the seams and inclusions, should have worked on it more.  Still not perfect, stock comb could be lowered another 2-3mm, should have inserted a flanged nut for the upper buttplate screw. Looks good, feels good, time will tell if it holds up to live fire. A standard AR-15 buttstock cleaning kit fits perfectly and adds a little weight which feels better.

Did you try using some automotive glazing compound on the inclusions?  You could probably apply it over the paint and wet sand it smooth.

The stock looks nice though.
