I am going to try some coated bullets to see if it is worth going that route for me and need help with selecting which to try.  I am loading .357 mag on the faster side for a Ruger GP100.  I am looking at Missouri Bullet Company for now.  I'm torn between two bullets, both are Brinell 18 and 158gr.

Brinell 18

It looks like the only difference is one is grooved and one grooveless.  If I'm not using lube is there any reason for the grooves?  Are there any pros or cons to these two types?

Do they both still have a crimp groove? You need a crimp groove but a lube groove makes little difference

Yes they both have the normal crimp groove.  One just has a lower lube groove as well.  Here are pics from their site.

Is it just me or does the meplat on the grooveless bullet look larger than the grooved bullet?

I agree they are slightly different.  Mainly I'm just curious if a lube groove serves any purpose when not utilizing lube.

either should work fine

I've used tons of the older type with the lube groove.

They don't lead,  even with hot H110/win296  or  2400 loads

good stuff
