Do they both still have a crimp groove? You need a crimp groove but a lube groove makes little difference

Yes they both have the normal crimp groove. One just has a lower lube groove as well. Here are pics from their site.

Is it just me or does the meplat on the grooveless bullet look larger than the grooved bullet?

I agree they are slightly different. Mainly I'm just curious if a lube groove serves any purpose when not utilizing lube.

With coated bullets, the lube grove is only there because the mold used was designed for lubed bullets.
Lube groves serve no purpose with coated bullets and do not matter either way. I cast and powder coat my own bullets. In my GP-100, I push them just as fast with H-110 as jacketed bullets. No smoke, no leading, and mine cost about nothing but the powder coat. (free lead) |

Myself, I size cast PC bullets to .359", and although I may be giving up speed on some rigs with tighter bores with the slightly higher pressures on bullet embedment to the rifling, on the looser bores, still have the .001' requirements of the bullet to bore to shoot it best isntead. |

either should work fine
I've used tons of the older type with the lube groove. They don't lead, even with hot H110/win296 or 2400 loads good stuff
