Another noob question. On most all videos of cleaning ML's they use a round cleaning patch to clean and lube  the bore, and all the round 2" to 2 1/2" patches are marked as muzzleloader cleaning patches. Will 2" to 2 1/2" square patches work or are the round one preferred for some reason ? 2" or 2 1/2" preferred ? -Thanks

I use square for cleaning. I guess it had to do with round patches for round ball so itmust have carried over to cleaning. But the old way was a patch pushed into the muzzle with a ball then the patch was cut. The patch could have started off as a square then became round. So there it is.

What he said.
So long as you keep it clean- don't matter.

Square or round makes no difference so long as it will fit in the bore. I use a wad of Tow fibers whenever possible when cleaning real BP. Highly efficient.
