Who's "Napoleon's Brigade"?

The rear sights for muzzle-loading artillery were typically an oval greatly elongated on the Y-axis for a greater elevation adjustment range.

The Napoleons Brigade or La Brigade Napoléonienne was an elite volunteer regiment of roughly 3,000 men. They had extremely tough standards such as being required to be under 5’ tall, arrogant, have an outrageous accent, and able to retreat in any conditions.

On a serious note. That sight looks like a sight from a percussion rifle. I feel it would be extremely difficult to pin point the smith who made it. My guess would be that it was made mid 19th century. I’d ask the black powder guys to see if they know.

looks like an early or crude version of a schuetzen rifle rear sight,

they were often one off's  and required a matching one off base on the rifle
