Depends on how the trust is written. I know one of mine can’t be changed…not sure about the other.

As far as the ATF goes, it can. You’d have an amendment that stated as of XX date the trust shall be known as ShortName Trust. The whole paper trail would match. Nothing to be re-engraved. Just use the new name going forward.

Other option is to just duplicate the trust and use the new version going forward.

One word of caution. If you do change it with an amendment, be prepared for the ATF to screw it up anyway.

My first trust had some weird formatting that made it look like the name included the date (like your example). A couple forms got denied. I had an amendment drafted to clarify the name. Then I put a sticky note on the front page that said to make sure they saw the amendment, and mentioned it was to address the trust name. The next form was also denied, for the same reason. When I called in and spoke to the examiner, I asked why they ignored the post-it and the amendment.  The answer was basically “we didn’t look at it because amendments are usually to change who the trustees are”… (this was before 41F, so RPs didn’t matter)

Creating a new one would leave it intact, as he requested. Then the new one, with a shorter name and all the same trustees, could be used going forward…and allow him to engrave the shorter name on Form 1 firearms.

Sure it satisfies it. No transfer taxes. Trust stays complete.

Then you use a new one for future purchases…or just F1 submissions, and use the old for additional F4 submissions.
