Call my google fu bad but i cannot seem to find a good answer. I have a c308 and i would like to shoot it cheaply. I know i can shoot steel in all kinds of guns but with the c308 and the fluted chamber, how well does it shoot steel with such a violent extraction. Premature wear on parts or other issues? What about the extractor or chamber? Is the extraction reliable and consistent? I would be looking to shoot a lot for the lifetime of the rifle. Will the cheap bi-metal/copper plated bullets wear the barrel faster than lead/copper plated bullets?

All i ever find is people saying they do shoot steel but i have not seen much for long term wear/reliability.

Can't comment about the long term wear but I shoot about 80% steel in my PTR.  I figure if I can afford enough ammo to wear out a barrel I can afford to have a new barrel installed.

Given how it mangles spent casings and hurls them 30 ft away, mine only sees steel. It has never been fed brass.

Not one malfunction ever.

I had a C93 and steel was the best running, most reliable cartridge. The brass just didn't run well, so steel it was. I wouldn't worry about it.

Steel Tulammo 308 runs great in my c308 and my cetme 51 homebuild.
