So this weekend, I attended a carbine course, and my AR performed pretty well overall. I had a few issues of the casing being ejected, but the bolt cycling so fast that it would get caught during ejection and almost look like a stovepipe. I know the rifle is over gassed, as it ejected at 1 o'clock consistently.

I plan to upgrade the buffer to either an H2 or H3, and possibly upgrade the buffer spring to a blue sprinco. I want to buy the right ones the first time. The rifle has an 11.5" barrel, carbine length, and I use a Deadiar Sandman K as the suppressor.

Yeah I was going to suggest a good quality adjustable gas block first.

That didn’t really cross my mind. I’ll definitely look into that. I’d imagine seekins isn’t too terrible?

I run 10.5" and 11.5" sbr's using H3 buffers. Using an adjustable gas block may require tweaking when switching ammo. By just using an H3 buffer, I run 55 grain .223, M193 and M855 5.56, and Black Hills MK262 with no issues over 4 years of usage.

That's what I was looking at, using an h3. Would a sprinco blue spring be too much in conjunction with the h3 buffer?

for me, i found the fix to be an adjustable gas block and a hydraulic buffer. i know people like to shit on those buffers but they do work but they are not cheap.

sure makes for a smooth shooting rifle though.

I run an H3 buffer and sprinco blue spring in my DD MK18 and it runs great suppressed and unsuppressed. I don't run an adjustable gas block and my barrel has the smaller correct .070 gas port and I only run 5.56 ammo, nothing under powered.

JP Silent Captured Spring, and an adjustable gas block. Quiet and reliable

Same as everyone else in this thread.

Normal buffers and springs in all my guns, and some silent captured JP springs.

Adjustable gas block.

Lowest powered ammo I run in my guns usually PMC brass 223, 1 round at a time starting with the lowest gas flow setting turn it up after every shot until the bolt locks back then turn it one more click. Every ammo I've ever used after doing that runs in the gun perfectly fine.

I have switched all of my 5.56 guns over to the Geissele braided wire spring and buffer combo.  SBR, 16" 18" and 20" all work great.  Suppressed and unsuppressed.

10.3 SBR with a Sandman-S, Geissele h2 buffer and Superlative Arms adjustable gas block. Brass ejects at 2:30.

Got a 10.5" with a H2 buffer and a Strike Ind flat spring, works fine.  American Eagle and PMC ammo, eats it up.

@BrWn001COW where does one obtain this 'bootleg' adjustable carrier?

These are complete.  My two were not, I used the other components (bolt, cam pin, etc) that I had on hand.  Just a couple options.

@BadWitch

Bootleg Inc is a sister company of Primary Weapons Systems (PWS)

as linked above(thanks Burnsy87), they make a 4 position selectable bolt carrier group.

The Gen 1 adjustable carrier that Burnsy87 and myself are running, came as a carrier only, and a bolt completion kit was later available as an add on.

The Gen 2 has a few updates, including full auto rated, forward assistance cuts, slight modification to carrier rails, etc and comes as a complete bolt carrier group.

Gen 2 top, Gen 1 bottom.

Ah I thought you meant bootleg as in knockoff.

Thanks

Call Alan at Sprinco and tell him what you're experiencing. He'll walk you through options. Alternatively, if you're in or near Austin, you can bring your rifle to his shop and tryout the different options. He'll let you shoot it out back (if suppressed).

Why not actually work on the gas system, instead of throwing springs and buffers at the problem?

Exactly, fix the problem, not the symptom.

I've been running a 9mm Pistol buffer with a Tube flat wire spring in my DD 10.5" MK18 Upper for a long time.  No issues, suppressed or not.
