After an almost 2 decades of wanting one, I was finally able to buy my own Benelli M4 LE, now I need help upgrading my baby....
I'm thinking extended bolt release, extended charging handle, extended safety, etc... please give me opinions and options available.. Attached File |
|
It took me awhile to get but I got a Scalarworks Sync for an Aimpoint T2 so I could get a co witness with sights.
I don’t know if they make them anymore, but the simplest light solution I found was an AVA tactical light mount. From there I’m in the same boat as you with bolt/release. They aren’t light shotguns so I wanted to go as minimal as possible. |

Freedom Fighter is an excellent resource for 922r compliant parts and info FYI

Pick 4 if using the oem collapsible stock since it counts as two sins. View Quote @StrangerDanger Thanks for all the info, I do have a 922r question, my gun is factory LE, do I still have to change 4 parts? PS. great looking gun... |

People still worry about 922r? And for a shotgun? I’m guessing 99% of Benelli owners would have no idea along with 100% of LEO.

has anyone ever been prosecuted for 922r?
i thought that applied to importing and not end user |

Get a entry and you don’t have to worry about the 922 crap at all

Very nice mount. I just need to find a few boxes of slugs to sight it in. |

Pick 4 if using the oem collapsible stock since it counts as two sins. I’d get either a Carriercomp titanium magazine tube or a Briley carbon fiber magazine tube to cut front end weight. I’d get the Carriercomp magazine spring regardless of which tube you get. I’d then get an A&S Engineering trigger frame, send it to Briley for their trigger/disconnector/hammer installation. Add a TTI shell elevator and a Dave’s Metal Works oversized safety. Bolt knobs are personal preference, but my current favorite is the latest generation TTI stainless knob. If you’re going with an optic, look into Scalarworks Sync rails and go with either a Trijicon RMR, Trijicon SRO or an Aimpoint T2. Weapon lights are a pain in the ass on the 18.5” model. My standard go to for the past few years has been the IWC weapon light like Mongo has on his entry model. The issue with it on a 18.5” is you get a lot of barrel shadowing and light bounce back off of the barrel and front sight tower. You can manage, but it’s less than ideal and worse if you ever run nogs. This past month I have been experimenting with a 15” Truckee rail which allows for mounting the light flush with the muzzle. The wire is then routed thru the rail to the opposite side to activate with an Unity Tactical MLOK pattern HotButton. I HATE tape switches, but I love this HotButton. It feels like a Z68 tailcap rubber button that you can place in various angles and directions. My favorite position is with the button facing forward so the recoil doesn’t jam your thumb against the activation button. The Truckee rail sucks as far as install and removal from the barrel. You can still pull the barrel from the receiver no problem. But if you want access to the Argo system, you’re going to need to remove the rail and to do this, you must remove all of your MLOK attachments. Even though it’s retarded, it’s worth the trouble for me to have the light mounted properly. I had to modify the rail somewhat to fit the offset light mount and to open ports to be able to pass the wiring inside the rail. The rail isn’t stable enough for a laser mount either. I wanted to mount like a Surefire X400V for the IR laser/illuminator for use with my helmet mounted night vision. https://i.imgur.com/VS9DSku.jpg https://i.imgur.com/uJrlZWj.jpg https://i.imgur.com/arwwaDg.jpg https://i.imgur.com/2rdrYzo.jpg https://i.imgur.com/lOL5FnZ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/JqK2Fz9.jpg View Quote StrangerDanger helped get me set up about 5(?) years ago. Everything was perfect. Cool to see the newer stuff on the market. |

Quoted: The SRO will sit slightly higher than the RMR on the Scalarworks Sync mount. This makes it a little more forgiving when using the collapsible stock in its middle position. There are spacer options from Reptillia that are made in different heights so you can bump the optic up if needed. I believe they have 2.5mm and 10mm heights. Most find the 10mm height to be best if you're sticking with the middle stock position. Your ability to co-witness starts to suffer as you get taller though. I found if you're using an optic, you're better off just removing the iron sights and cutting about 4 ounces of weight. The iron sights tend to clutter the optic and you'll find it is faster without the irons there. Your field of view is decluttered as well. https://i.imgur.com/V45hKN4.jpg View Quote The reason why I prefer the SRO over the RMR is the top battery mount, my question is, will the SRO hold up on a shotgun? |
|
I use a SRO on a M4 and to ensure it’s more robust I cover it with a Jaegerwerks BROS. Short of a direct impact to the glass, it’s probably the strongest setup I’ve seen.

View Quote I haven't heard of anyone having issues with the SRO on the Benelli. The hood is thinner than the RMR around the glass, so I'd assume it can't handle as much abuse, but I've never seen one wrecked. |

Most end up getting rid of those kind of speed bars. They can mark up the OEM button and usually you need to modify your handguards for it to fit. The standard oversized button people go with is the GG&G or the FFT model. The FFT is cosmetically nicer, but significantly more expensive and harder to find in stock. Another option is the J Kenny kit. I have one of these on order, so I can't say how well it performs to recommend it or not. |

I do like the idea, lets see if it works.. |

My shooting friend had a TTI extended bolt handle on her Benelli competition gun . One day it snapped off . Snapped as in snapping a pretzel rod in half .
After seeing that I would never recommend one . |

I had to bend it a bit after installing because it was putting enough pressure on the bolt release to make unloading the magazine noticeably more difficult. After bending it to reduce the pressure so it’s lightly resting on the release button, it’s amazing and makes dropping the bolt no longer a fine motor skill! |

Are the collapsible socks still a “seasonal” item, being more available at some times vs others?
Just looked at GB and they are $700 and up |

I’d never pay these gouged prices for the collapsible stocks. They’re realistically worth around 200-275 dollars. I would rather buy a complete M1014 to take the stock from, then resell it with a pistol grip or field stock for a discounted price to recoup your money.
For most looking to buy a M4 with a collapsible stock, the most cost effective method is to get a M1014 and replace the receiver extension with one that is functional. Regal Metalworks is now making several models and RXArms is looking to get into the aftermarket at a better price point. Benelliparts, midwest and Numrich stock oem three position extensions from time to time. Swapping the extension is a pain in the ass, but it’s doable. I wouldn’t take the job to a general gunsmith to have the swap done. Fortunately there are a few competent gunsmiths out there that handle these jobs frequently.. Lately I keep seeing M4’s coming from Benelli with misaligned receiver extensions. Many are a few degrees off out of alignment. So getting it done correctly can often times be better than the Monday job factory M4’s. |

most effective way to get the collapsible is to buy an LE gun.
for parts, I hate the bolt handle that rotates. I like this one, tries to stick to the original weight. CHARGING HANDLE by SJ Hardware, looks like in stock on Canadian site and OOS on US site. Bolt release I like by GG&G, it doesn't need to be gigantic. |

Does anybody know if Carriercomp is still producing mag extensions? I placed an order in January per their policy and can't get a response now. I have an invoice number. I recognize they were extremely busy, but the delivery date would now be far beyond the delay quoted on their site. I just want to give them the money. If they're out of business, I'll move on.
Edit: just had a call from Carriercomp. The order is good. |
