There are some older threads I've bounced through, nothing recent.

I see guys on FB running these on REAPs/Patrols to good effect (same eyering housing, said to match up fine)

Anyone here using one with real-world gouge on it?

I see you are asked to specify phosphor color when ordering. I have a green G3 PVS-14, and the REAP is obviously black/white bias.  Any input on whether it would be better to host a green biased LPMR on a black/white REAP or a white biased LMPR on a green -14?

I'm sick as shit of running all the cables and adapters to record to DVR from the REAP (not to mention the poor quality video output of the REAP) and the heavy GoPro setup on the -14.  The 1080 video of the LPMR looks pretty great on the social media vids.

Posted the same question to the mfr, really didn't expect a response (I've been batting low percentage lately from mfr's aside from Trijicon, FLIR and TNVC....)  but they replied back within minutes!

Green would be your best bet, it won’t matter for the calibration on the REAP, so best to order based on the nod you have to get the best from both worlds. Incidentally, green phosphor calibrated LPMR’s work just fine on WP tubes if you ever chose to upgrade.

Also added that they're rolling out the MK2, and that if you order from the mfr they'll be notifying new purchases of the MK2 upgrade before delivery.  Existing owners will get an upgrade if wanted.

mk2 definitely has some nice added features for hunters, better cable placement, recoil compatibility, and the ability to use a rubber eyecup/Wilcox amber filter in conjunction with the LPMR

These guys were ALL OVER every question I asked and went beyond on answering.  Seem to be good guys (I've never met, shot with, seen, heard in person or been given anything by or bought anything from them before - not looking to shill, just impressed when a company that's not a HUGE presence in the market is responsive and informative...)

I asked them a similar question about using on ird/trijicon stuff.  They told me it would fit, but was washing the image out in the video .  My understanding was ,
1. It had to do with overall amount of light output from display screen.
2.  They were working to remedy the situation, so they could be used that way

That was my understanding anyway.  Maybe that’s what the mk2 upgrade is??
Also was my understanding that it records video in 12 second clips.  So a 5 min recording is gonna have 25 separate, short clips .   Again this was my understanding, and it might not be 100% accurate. But sounds a lots better than current options out there

Interesting.  The short clips thing is no issue, with lighthound I can string them all together with a batch command, but I wasn't aware.

Not sure about the washout issue on thermals.  I didn't even consider using it on the REAP (despite the same eyepiece, it just hadn't crossed my mind).  Saw videos on social media from Lone Star Boars and others using it on the REAP and was surprised with the quality - BLOWS AWAY the dedicated video-out DVR and gets rid of all the extra hardware.  Maybe its just a matter of adjusting the REAP settings?

Can't wait to give it a shot, at any rate.

And on second thought, may not even WANT to string the clips together....   At the present, I have to open the FULL video and trim it to the few seconds I want, anyhow.  This may actually SAVE me some time...  Pick only the segment(s) i want and delete the 2 hours of waiting and walking and watching

First off @lilmac25 , I’ve seen you shoot pigs.  You don’t want to put that on internet for everyone else to see.......

More serious note. Again this was my understanding, don’t take it as gospel.  The short clips were designed for LEO.  Example , somebody gets woke up in middle of the night , everything goes sideways.  Similar to body cam, but less chance files/video corrupted as a whole.  May lose a segment , but not whole thing .

They said the issues w reap/ect we’re brightness.  You had to turn it all the way down. But again, it’s been 6 months since I talked to them, so it may have changed.

Do you ha e to have the gain turned all the way up like on FPRS?  My current FPRS I have to turn the gain to the max to get any really usable footage.

Unsure on a lot of this myself- but I rolled the dice and ordered one today so should be able to report back and upload some vids as soon as it's cranked out.

If I can get anything even APPROACHING the videos I've seen of the unit on a REAP I'll be thrilled, even half that good will trounce the REAP's abysmal video out capabilities.

It'll mainly live on the PVS-14, though.  I do a fair amount of hunting thru the -14 with a G20SF and a 6.8 with DBAL-A3.  That's the footage that's "fun" to me, you seen one thermal hunting video you've seen em all....  Trying to explain standing in the middle of a sounder with a suppressed handgun in full dark is something else...

Not to mention, FPV NV amateur porn.

Sales pitch.

What is happening is the buffer bucket needed in between the imager and the recorder can be made cheaper and smaller when it only has to hold short clips.

I haven't seen this particular unit, but all the ones I have seen are repurposed alibaba minicams that sell for about 20 bucks each. Same camera system, difference is in how much effort the reseller makes in beefing up the flex tape connector, battery connection, etc etc etc, and of course the nod adapter which I think there are files on shapeways now where you can just order your own if you wanna DIY.

The camera may smear or wash out, but it depends on if you can put a small file on the storage card that adjusts camera parameters, or talk to it with a bluetooth connection. Or, if it's that big of a deal, buy a shit pair of clipon sunglasses and use a hole punch to create a filter...
