I figured I should share the results here if any of you guys dont frequent GD. I know there's not a lot of data on it which is disappointing.

These are all max loads from alliant. I was kinda hoping for a little more juice but content I guess.

2.75" barrel

.38

125gr fmj 6.1gr BE-86
925fps
237 ft lbs

158gr swc 5.7gr BE-86
897fps
282 ft lbs

.357

125gr fmj 9.1gr BE-86
1182fps
388 ft lbs

Ill try to test these in my M64 soon. Iirc I typically get close to 100 fps faster in my 4" m64 vs my 2.75" m66. If thats the case Id be really happy with both of these as gp loads in that gun.

First time loading be-86. Very little flash

Alliant only gives max charges in their data.

You have to read the intro to know to reduce the load they give 10% from shown to start loading with.

I've read somewhere that Be-86 is slightly modified Power Pistol with a flash suppressant.

I have only tried it in 10mm, but it made good loads, and I will do further testing with it.

I wish I had the tools to measure pressure because the loads felt pretty mild for .357 and  +p. 38

Heres the .38 results from my 4" m64 compared to some unique loads

125gr fmj over 6.1gr BE-86
1004 fps
280 ft lbs

130gr jsp over 6gr unique
938 fps
254 ft lbs

158gr tc hardcast over 5.2gr unique
924 fps
299 ft lbs

158gr swc-wn over 5.7gr BE-86
1004 fps (yes, the same as the 125gr loads)
354 ft lbs

Good data report.
thanks for posting.

was the 158 swc wn standard wax type lube?  If so I presume it was still smokey due to the wax???

Was your experience low flash?

Yeah, normal hardcast. Hard to tell as I was outside.

Got some 125gr XTPs enroute. I'll test them in water to see if they'll open up from my wifes 2" m15 which would be worst case scenario velocity wise.

Nice, thats all the speed I would ever put into a K frame.  Not saying anything about safety just it tops out what I like shooting.

A load like that could replace unique for me.   Mentally I already relegated my older style powders to cast bullets in my milsurp rifles.

Man I love k frame .357s.  I also have M28 and 686 but the K frame just fits.
