I'm looking to buy a "reliable" AR-style .22LR pistol with a barrel length under 10". Since Smith & Wesson won't offer what I want, I need to explore other options. I'm only aware of the two below. The CMMG is good, but more than I'm willing to spend for a .22LR.  I'd like to spend no more than $600. What other reliable and reasonably priced options are out there?

HK 416 22LR
CMMG Banshee .22

I don't know of a factory one, might have to build it yourself.

MAC and 22plinkster both did a YT video on them that made me want one.

I built (assembled) my own - it's on a SBR'd lower, but you could build a pistol for a little less.

It's a CMMG 4" barrel & bolt combo - and the SilencerCo Sparrow just sticks out enough to allow removal for cleaning from under the 7" Handguard.

A Holosun 503 sits on top, and that's a LWRC Ultra Compact stock.  I added a Magpul vertical forward grip after this picture taken.

It runs great with any ammo I've run through it - Std. Vel up through Hi-Velocity - with a 4" barrel, almost everything stays sub-sonic, so it sounds like a staple gun when fired.

CMMG offers longer barrels - a 9" one I think, if that's more to your liking.

Have fun,
Bob S.

That looks really good. Nice and compact.
I know CMMG is good stuff, I just don't want to pay CMMG prices for a 22LR.
I already intend to pick up a CMMG 9mm when my can gets out of jail this summer.
This 22 pistol purchase is to mate with a 22 can I just got my hands on.
I still can't believe the S&W had shortened their 22 AR carbine to a pistol.

The bottom is my dedicated .22, built with a CMMG bolt and a Tacomm 4.5” barrel, and suppressor.

I built it for 1/2 of what a factory model would cost.

You can get a Anderson stripped upper & lower set for about $100.00
The CMMG 4" barrel & bolt set is $175.00 from Opticsplanet (they run 10% off often)
Lower parts kit - $70.00 - maybe less (maybe more depending on what trigger you like)
Pistol brace - $40.00-130.00
7" Handguard - $80.00

So a low of $465.00 to a high of about $555.00 plus whatever the FFL fee is your world for the lower - $20-$40 locally here.

Add a inexpensive Red Dot Sight - and a few $20.00 mags and load up...

I purchased a 4” barreled complete upper from TACCOM and put it on a poverty pony virgin lower. It required a bit of feed ramp polishing, a ~200 round break-in and a CMMG .22LR charging handle to get it running 100% reliable. Now it’s a great suppressor host.

LOL. OP would be better off waiting for Glock to put out a .22 LR AR upper. They will have them shipping before RTB gets theirs back in stock. No response on their Industry forum to inquiries. Strung alone several times via e-mail with in stock dates that never materialized.

Even though this is a Rifle Forum, below is a photo of AR-7 (top; actually, Charter Arms Explorer II, which are readily available on the used firearm market) and AR-15 (bottom) pistols.  The one on the bottom (the more expensive of the two) has less than $600 invested including several magazines.

S&W did in fact make a 15-22 pistol.  If you keep your eyes peeled they still pop up on gunbroker occasionally.

That is what I did and my cost was under $500 for everything. I went with an end cap instead of a brace.
Anderson upper and lower $100 (including transfer fees)
CMMG 4.5" barrel and bolt kit $240
RRA lower parts kit $40
Model 1 End cap $28
Guntec 4" handguard $50
Kak Slimline Micro flash can $20

I had a Primary Arms Micro Red Dot all ready so didn't have to buy a sight.

If you are somewhat flexible about what you consider an "AR-style" .22LR pistol, you may wish to consider the KelTec PLR-22.

Best of luck with whatever you pursue.

Somebody please get a POF Rebel .22 and tell me what you think. Looks interesting.
