IR illuminators got me acting strange. Mostly bc I broke my $20 one I had glued together one night.

Sooooo, if anyone wants to participate in building ridiculously cheap laser illuminators from free WISH pointers or diodes let this be your thread. If you have a few gucci beemz laying around and want to do a build guide, this is your thread.

I've got three free blue wish laser pointers that should be able somewhere in the 800nm+ range and a couple green I can take 1000nm+. I will take them apart, post pics, and I hope you decide to do the same. I'd really like to see everyone come together and build ridiculously awesome laser/LED illuminators because we are still the best resource on the web.

Also, if you decide to participate tag your place in this thread now so we can see how many are in. Please try to remember to post your sources for each part! Take advantage of Ebay!

Rules:

1. Do talk about laser/LED illuminator club
2. Post your SOURCES
3. Safety
4. ???
5. Profit

Sounds cool. I don't have any external IR illumination yet. What's the learning curve and materials cost like? Either way, in to learn

I'm in. I should be in a country with slightly faster postal times in the next few weeks. So that will help me keep up. And it will be good practice for when I work on IR configuring my grocery technical next year

In for learning - would love to be able to make an 1064+nm one for the Aurora.

In. Don't know squat about building my own but I'll learn. In for a green as well

So what's the beginners guide on this? I just got a Steiner i2 but am interested in a dual purpose output flashlight

Link Posted: 8/20/2019 9:34:29 AM EDT
Seriously though...

I’m currently making a 980nm currently using an M600 scout flashlight body/head, Laserlands 980nm diode, 650-1100nm AR coated cylindrical lens for beam correction, and a tiny driver.

I’m only waiting for my aurora to show up so I can see the beam and get this project working.

I don't think I've broken so much in so little time ... Interesting note, one of the diodes without collimating lens made a bar that was fucking lit af at distance. Imagine a perfectly level flashlight that at 100 yards spread beast mode ir in a bar shape. Would have gotten pics but broke it shortly after... Fuck. Waiting for more diodes now, got a 2000mw coming in along w two 1000mw and plenty of lens systems to make beeemz

The bar shape is fucking sharp and perfect for scaning a tree line at distance.

2000mw reminds me of 1.21 gigawatts. GREAT SCOTT!!! Also in for knowledge on futuristic bar shaped death rays

I've got tons of drivers, one IR diode left that should be around either 808 or 1064nm and more otw from China #1 and special lenses to help make this project awesome. As soon as the new stuff arrives I'll have photos and pics up for you all.

Will dig up pics of a 16W (not a typo) laser illuminator I cobbled together some time back. That thing was needlessly powerful. Haven't figured out a real use for it yet. Almost set my chair on fire by accident. Laser goggles are essential with unwise experiments like that.

I'm uh scared of what I've built so far. It's hobbled together w glue and Dremel fitting. When new housing gets here and it's together y'all are about to see what it means to have a fucking light saber

I have lots of pics, I've now spent a couple hundo in parts, posted over at lpf and learned me stuff about lasers i never known. I just don't want to post any before I can give you all a clear cut guide to avoid the destruction and trial and error I've faced getting here.

Like I have one diode set for bar mode, it's stupid sicc. A whole tree line can be lit up for eyes and there's no hiding. The latest build is collimated and is like shining a flash light, except it's super far (I'll range find it in the AM) and still bright af. Like stupid bright.
Link Posted: 9/13/2019 4:58:00 AM EDT
I want this to be cheap af, easily built and available to everyone who wants one. It runs off an 18650, had a housing and can be adjusted for your convenience. The issue I'm having is this shit is SCARY to work with. I'm legitimately one mistake away from being blind. Which makes it that much more fun.
