My unit issues peltors and TCAPS (a tactical earbud style comms headset).  Both dual comm. I love the TCAPs because they don't get as hot and uncomfortable, but the mic on the TCAPS doesn't pick up my voice unless I'm practically yelling.  The peltors work great but are uncomfortable. Anyone know a hearing protection dual comm earbud style headset that amplifies ambient sound, doesn't suck, and is durable?

Peltor Comtac IV maybe? It's a "hybrid" headset. Uses an in-ear earbud, but still has the features of the Comtac III.

ETA: Maybe NACRE QuietPro too. Not sure if they make dual comm models though.

Buy gel seals for your Comtacs or find Sordins/Liberators with a behind the head suspension. Sordins have notorious failures with the battery box, though. Durability truly lies with Peltor.

I can’t find the thread, I think I replied in it, but for some reason can’t find it on my phone-  but I have the Sordins and was getting intermittent recoil induced cut outs. Finally, they died.   Reading up, it sounds like the way the batteries go in, it is only a matter of time before the AA batteries compress the battery contacts to a point at which there isn’t sufficient tension to maintain contact through a short, sharp shock (or moderate recoil).  Anyway, someone recommended conductive adhesive tape, I think 1/4”, and you essentially make a pillow out of the stuff and stick it to the battery that goes into the sordins.  Worked like a charm for me.  Available on amazon

I believe I saw that thread. PITA to remove batteries good or bad, though.

You said uncomfortable, particularly how? Just asking.  I never had a problem with my msa sordins, get the gel cups.  They do get toasty in the ear cups either way.  The peltor iv's are the shit.  I wish I had them on deployment. They feel flimsy though, atleast to me.

Are your peltors mounted to your helmet or are you wearing them under your helmet? When I got my unit set up to switch from under the helmet to helmet mounted, everyone across the board liked it better.
