I love the aug, I think it’s the best Bullpup’s on the market. Since I picked up my first one I have been looking for a cqc. Years later I still haven’t found one. Two questions to the guru’s out there.
Are these impossible to find at this point?
How many were even made?

I ask because for the last couple years I have looked and never seen one for sale.

Edit: arms list doesn’t count since those seem to be fakes from what I have read

I too have wanted one for years, due largely to Rainbow Six. Used to be Pete would sell you one, sell you the conversion kit, or let you mail it in so he could do the conversion. I may be wrong, but I think the ship on all of that has sailed. They show up on the secondary market from time to time, sometimes reasonably priced, sometimes not.

The MSAR is going to be the closest thing to the AUG that is fairly easy to fing. It was made by Microtech (super Gucci knife company). I've shot the MSAR, it's accurate!

Yes, the cqc ship has sailed and I don't think too many where ever made. I think the big issue was that conversion was designed for the AUG A3 which has been replaced with the AUG A3 M1. At least that's from what I remember. It was a good looking gun but from handling one at one of the bullpup shoots a few years ago I don't think id want one. It made the gun heavy and threw off the neutral balance to front heavy. If I'm wrong about its availability I'm sure melanoite will come in and correct me soon he's pretty much the AUG expert.

The MSAR doesn't have anything to do with a CQC AUG. Plus its a product of a defunct company and only exchanges some parts with a real aug so I'm not sure how it applies to his question.

You slaughtered my username

CQC only works with the A3 receivers, and the complete new gun or new parts kit ship sailed years ago.

While heavy, I really like them for what they are.

An oddity of the CQC is that they're designed for 18" barrels but steyr couldn't get FN to make them during the panic of 2013, so the guns all had 16" barrels and extended flash hiders. Very very few CQC's have the correct 18" barrel as it was intended.

Yeah they were pretty chunky and front heavy, plus didn’t it pretty much eliminate the quick change barrel setup? And yes, the MSAR advice is poor. Today it’s easier than ever in years past to get a real Steyr AUG in multiple flavors. It’s just not gonna be a CQC AUG. The MSAR was a mess back when the company was actually operational (and I use that term loosely), now getting one for anything other than some misguided nostalgia is a fool’s errand.

The CQC still retains the QD barrel capability, you just have to remove the QD forend first.

And good point, MSAR is junk AND unsupported. Buying an AUG is at an all time high for availability and low cost.

This IS the best time to buy an AUG. just not the a3.
Keep your eyes peeled; or you could just call Pete. If you think you might suppress it ask him to swap out the flash hider for you.

@maleante, how is that scope you're showing off? Useable, clear, affordable, available?

Thank you.

Wasn't Pete releasing a CQC styled rail?
Link Posted: 6/25/2018 11:10:59 AM EST
The CQC concept was brilliant, but IMO the design was flawed and exacerbated minor issues that the AUG had into more visible issues. It also made the rifle extremely nose heavy and extremely poorly balanced. I sold mine a few years back and while I regret not having the rifle for the collector value, I don't miss it as a shooter.

Lol yes, I did sorry. For some reason your screen name makes me think of nitriding aka melonite. But now that I'm looking at it more closely its probably been a Spanish word all these years and I just haven't paid enough attention. Doh!

It's definitely useable. The glass is the same 3x meopta as the other 3x AUG's, but there's only 6 like that in the US. When you buy from Pete it's more affordable than from steyr. The 3x optics are all but unavailable, I do have the tool to swap optic tubes - so if you have both the A3 optic and a 3x optic it's possible to swap tubes for a 3x A3 optic. The 1.5x A3 optics are easy to come by.

These are a purist optic, there are more effective and lighter options in its price range.

Yeah, I like the A3 optics. They are tough, look cool and are super high quality. But for the price and features, they are outdated and kinda suck.

I do have an older A3, in 1.5x I bought as a package with the old Sabre A3, grip rails and military high rail (which these optics were really designed for, the CQC rail is the same height as well). It's cool and would work in a pinch for just about any situation. But with no illumination, they are outdated.

Will this new lithgow f90 be any good if it ever comes out?
Link Posted: 6/26/2018 6:46:15 PM EST
I'd say the Atrax will be better for rail space than most of the AUG options, but the lack of QD barrel and whittled down receiver doesn't seem worth it to me. Especially if the ATF tells them to put the receiver as the serialized component, then there upper swap out will be more of an issue since you gotta buy the entire receiver to change barrel length or calibers if they get to that point.

Quite a bit ago. Since Steyr doesn't produce the A3 receiver these days. The market would be extra, extra small.

Ah, I keep on thinking the M1 receivers are the same as the A3. Thanks God I brought one from Pete.

I have a A3 CQC from Pete that spends most of its time paired with a Qualified machinegun sear/hammerpack.

The CQC does add a bit of weight to the front end, but nothing that I would consider to be egregious or that makes that gun a pig weight wise. There are only a handful of parts that transform a normal A3 into a CQC, the top rail is taller and a smidge longer than the standard A3 rail, the forearm seating ring on the barrel, the slightly longer flash hider, and the front rail assembly.

Most of the parts are close to a wash weight wise as you are just swapping one rail or flash hider for another. The most significant weight delta comes from the railed forearm which is ~14oz with the side rails installed and about ~11oz without the side picatinny rails removed.

In my estimation attaching a standard rifle caliber suppressor adds about the same amount of weight (or more depending upon the can) and that weight sits much farther out front than the CQC forearm does.

I actually think the CQC balances a bit better with a little more weight out front than the standard A3. In full auto the extra weight makes muzzle climb almost non-existent and the gun that much more controllable. As easy as it is to swap my auto hammer pack around to different AUGs, its spends most of its time in the CQC.

Just my 2 cents anyway.

As always this post is worthless without pictures.

The CQC is the basis for my suppressable marksman's AUG, or for short, the SMAUG.

11lbs empty, yeah. The can and Vortex Razor do it no favors.

Still taking it out to 3-gun tomorrow because MIKE MIKE MIKE GUESS WHAT MONTH IT IS

Slight side tracks you can get them on Amazon. I've got one on my AUG and a Aera 51 property sticker on one of my ARs.

I pulled mine out yesterday just to cop a feel. It didn't feel that much heavier but I'm sure after hiking around 39# boxes of books it's gonna feel light!
