AERVOE - 987A OLIVE DRAB (34087)

They both are OD, but the one on the far right has a couple of very quick swipes of AERVOE FIELD DRAB over the base coat of OD.

@kwando

RRA ‘Tactical Carry Handle’

It came on a RRA ‘Entry Tactical’ LAR-15 I bought over a decade ago. It was designed for use with Aimpoint red dots, but I’m not sure they make them anymore. The 16” upper in my pictures above is also from that old RRA rifle.

I've found it works best to warm your parts before spraying, between coats, and after, while drying. I've always set them in front of a space heater until they're hot enough to be uncomfortable to the touch. Like any good paint, several light coats, letting it flash off between coats. I've got a gun that I painted over 10 years ago, hasn't been babied and the finish still looks like the day I did it.

That's a good idea, the space heater. I've been using a heat gun lately, same effect. I agree that it helps.

Thanks for the tips! I don't have a space heater (it gets hot where i live) but i have a wife and a heat gun. Ill definitely warm up my stuff before painting. Also heard that warming up the paint is a good idea. Went with aervoe because i want it to hold up to some abuse, but i don't quite need cerakote levels of strength.

Made my first attempt at spray painting a rifle yesterday evening.  This is my least prestigious AR and I did a pretty low effort job of it just to see how it would turn out.  Overall I’m satisfied with the outcome but I don’t like how light the Rustoleum khaki camo paint is.  I need to track down something more coyote brown colored for the next attempt.

It is light, but I use it myself. The contrast makes for good real-use camo IMO, at least in terms of breaking up profile. I like it!

Their sand color isn't much better in terms of being dark, either.  It just has more of a yellow hue to it.

I do wish they had an in between color when compared to the earth brown or whatever its called.

If anyone has a line on Aervoe Light Green plz link me. I cannot find it in stock anywhere and I want to do a bazooka green carbine.

Since pic thread... Shot a few new test handloads at 100 yesterday from my custom shooting platform, then backed off to 250 and was smacking the 3" steel easily. I like the green and fde, and I like this gun. Heavy, but it's easy to shoot.

I tried the whole heat thing but it didn't really speed up the cure time. Just time and air movement. Be patient.

If you use the khaki as the base coat it seems to be darker than when sprayed over an OD or Earth Brown.  I think it is because  you don't get the feathered edge of Khaki that is really light, and instead that is the darker color feathering into the khaki.

SBR on the bottom is the Rustoleum colors...kahki base, then brown and green sprayed over it.

Thanks,

I have some rubbery Surefire ladder rail covers I rattle canned for my banana yellow AR well over a year ago, they’re still tacky!

Everything else I painted that day turned out great. Those Surefire covers are still hanging in my garage tacky to this day.
