[Last Edit: Cold]
I've ultimately been wanting a bolt action AR type rifle.
Some reason it grabs my attention. Now AERO has the SOLUS. What is the opinion of the hive?? Short action it says. I have begun buying parts for another AR-10 in .243. Why not have it in this -or- a 6.5 in this?? School me please. I like AERO in big bore guns. They just work it seems. Machining is good. Why not?? I'd rather table my present project and move to this if their worthy having. Insight, knowledge is 'mucho' appreciated. TIA. Add: my gunsmith specializes in bolt guns by the way. He can build me a nice bolt gun. I already own some bolt guns I inherited. I'm not interested in wood stock guns. I like (AR) type. |

Hmm, interesting. Other than it being made by Aero, there is really not much AR about it. Now if they had made an upper than could be pinned onto an AR lower I might be keenly interested, but it looks like just another entry into the precision rifle genre. What is the street price point?

It must be chambered in .308. -or- 6.5 -or- .243.
I'd like it .243. That chambering ig is 'very' useful in my area. I've decided I need whats best for my area. I suppose 6.5 will work, but, what I saw/witnessed recently the .243 serves my needs. However, I understand 6.5 can be used where .243 isn't be used. I have bolt guns that use (.243) use caliber. I suspect I need go forget about what I have already and focus what "I" want. Not what those behind me did. |

Well I guess the letters A and R appear in the name.

So gonna take a chance on it. They did accept a 10% off site wide coupon code (actually they emailed me one when I let the rifle sit in my cart for a while). Was about 1540 OTD with tax included. |

The solus doesn't look at all "AR type". As others have said, it's an unproven rifle. For that coin, I'd just get a Tikka and drop it in a Bravo. If you want AR Styling, look at the RPR or bolt gun of your choice dropped into a chassis

Yeah supposed to be a hand lapped and honed BA barrel. Sub moa guarantee and tested with 147eldm
I've got an older ar spr rifle barrel from ballistic advantage that has shot 10 shot sub moa group. I've heard people having issues with new ones, so just got my fingers crossed. Plan on spinning on a 22 or 6mm creed barrel in the near future anyway. Could have went for the Arc or other custom action, and bought every other component, but price would have definitely been higher than this complete rifle |

I saw the SOLUS action also and am intrigued.
Lots of positives especially for home builders including using a Savage barrel and nut arrangement makes installing a barrel no more difficult than building an AR. Basic footprint of a 700 means more aftermarket support than any other bolt action on the market. Not cheap but in line with other actions of its type but also unproven. Aero has been good about support so I’m not overly concerned. |
