Shopping for a Tavor. I am tempted by the $1000 9mm versions, however, most people tend to not be interested in these and go for the 5.56 versions.

For me, the $1000 vs $1500 seems nice, plus the lessor cost of 9mm vs 5.56 ammo. Is there anything else that makes the 9mm version less desirable?

I believe the 9mm are the "original" versions so I guess you have to figure in $250 for a trigger, so you're closer in price I suppose.

thoughts?

I have both, and I like my 9mm just fine.

But I wish it had a Glock mag option.

I've seen them on closeout for $1099 in a few places.
But for me, if i grab a rifle, I want a rifle caliber.

Here. https://www.lockedloaded.com/products/rifles-iwi-us-tsfd179-856304004684-2335

Credit goes to the Reddit gundeals sub

Money isnt everything....like i said, if i can save money and shoot cheaper ammo, thats a huge plus. But if it makes sense to go for the 5.56 x95 for $1500, im ok with that. But $500 savings could go towards a nice trigger and red dot

So side by side, no major downsides to the 9mm?

The 9mm only makes sense really if you want to suppress it, there's really no other benefit over 5.56 which has much easier to find and less expensive mags and obviously superior ballistics in the same package.

I reload so a pistol round isn't that much cheaper than a rifle round.

As stated above "If I grab a rifle I want it to shoot rifle rounds" or something like that.

No downside to me, though I'd plan to take the 5.56 to man the barricades when the SHTF.

I shoot both in my backyard, and the 9mm's get more action because they're cheaper to shoot.

Yes, the 9mm is much heavier, bigger and bulkier than it needs to be for a 9mm. In my opinion, the only reason to get one is a lower cost training familiarity in addition to a 5.56. Otherwise get a PCC. Maybe wait for Manticore’s Scorpion bullpup.

Yeah a big 8lb PCC doesn’t sound that interesting to me when you can get a pistol be it a ar, scorpion, etc and put a brace on it to get a smaller lighter cheaper package.

I have 2 tavors 1 idf sar and a x95 so it’s not like I hate the rifle either. If I had to guess I would say the blowout deals would be from them not selling well and wanting to move inventory but I could be wrong.

That said if it floats your boat, you want one and you are limited to short ranges or ones that mandate pistol calibers it could be fun.

Exactly this

Folks already bitch about the Tavor's weight, for a 5.56 (compared to lightweight AR builds). It's a HEAVY 9mm.

The ONLY reason I'd get a 9mm Tavor (maybe), is for cheaper ammo to train with (I have the 5.56).

If you want a PCC, there are other cheaper and lighter options.

For a Tavor, the 16.5" 5.56 version has the most benefits:
- length of a 10.5" AR with stock collapsed, or 7.5" AR with stock fully extended
- rearward balance for easy handling 1-handed. You can aim and shoot it perfectly fine 1-handed
- SBR length without the SBR hassles (don't need to inform the ATF etc. etc. just to take it across state lines to go shooting with buddies)
- ballistics of a 16.5" barrel. Don't bother with the 18". In THIS platform in particular, the minimal gain in ballistics isn't worth the tradeoff in compactness.

The x-95 although kind of heavy feels nice and compact for 556, in 9mm it just seems kind of huge, especially when you have other options like the sig mpx, cz scorpion etc. I have one in 556 and love it, not interested in the 9 mm

I don't think anyone mentioned the added aspect of competing in PCC division. Given the choice between PCC and pistol, I favor the PCC because it's more fun running the pistol stages using a "rifle", the same type rifle I would grab given an extreme situation. For me it's extra training.

Gunprime i think had the 9 for around 1k. I would not spend 12-1500 fir a Tavor (had one) but for a grand id have it in 9mm

I bought a Tavor 5.56 and a 9 mm conversion right before the '16 election, cause I always wanted a Bullpup 9mm (Since MSAR screwed the pooch and choked on their ideas). The biggest downside to the conversion is that it is a pain in the ass. Still haven't shot it- or even the 5.56. I need to quit spending money on guns- right after the CZ Skorpion buy.

I know, really sad. I'm about 4 rifles behind and one build. Need to buy les and shoot more, but that seem sacrilegious somehow.

Yeah, it’s not a conversion that is meant to easily swap back and forth between calibers. I had the conversion for my 5.56 Tavor SAR, but kept it permanently converted to 9mm after I got my 5.56 X95. Also recently got the stamp back for my Osprey 9 suppressor, so there’s that.

I like my X95 9mm so much i am SBRing it.
