I hadn’t seen before. So the point is to create a “tucked” or gapless look for a flash can. I personally don’t mind the wasp-waist, exposed barrel look, but being 6061 aluminum there’s hardly no weight penalty.  And being a flash can heat absorption should be minimal.  

You might even be able to use it for a faux tucked suppressor look by counter boring for a suppressor muzzle device (making the inside thread a very shallow spacer) and then trimming the front end to kiss the back of a suppressor mount.  

A stepped version from 1.25 to 1.5 could also be a problem solver in some instances.
