A buddy has wanted a 44mag pistol for a while now and I've been saving components, when I came across them. I've plenty of mix HS brass and several hundred 240gr JHP (Hornady #4420). I don't have an older Hornady book and I don't see data for these in the one I do have. I've checked the myriad of books I do have and see a bit of conflicting data for those that list 240gr JHP's.

I have:
44MAg Brass
240gr JHP's (Hornady #4420)
Large Pistol Primers (several brands)
Large Pistol Mag Primers (CCI 350)

Powders I have that seem to be pertinent:
H4227
IMR-4227
2400
TiteGroup
Red Dot
Universal

Does anyone use a load w/ Red Dot? I ask as I have about 25-30lbs of it.

I use a different powder than what you have listed (I reload shotgun as well). One interesting thing I've noticed is S&B brass is just tight. As in I cant seat a primer tight. I have to get a large primer crimp removal and clean up the primer pocket. Other brands I have good luck with, but that damn S&B...I dont know what they do to it.....

You should look at Unique for powder options.  To me it's the best overall.44mag powder.  You can go from .44 Special levels to warmish mid-level magnums and anything in between.  Some don't like it because it may be a bit dirty but it just wipes right off.

Hodgdon's website has good data but only for their powders. Not specifically that bullet but work up as usual and it's fine. I like titegroup for practice loads. No idea about red dot. 2400 should give you some mid to moderately hot loads. Alliant's site has data for 2400.

Yes, there are Red Dot loads for.44 Mag. I used to shoot some of it since I always had it around for trap and dove loads.

Anther one I didn't see on your list is H110

I preferred it to 2400 since it seemed to give less erosion or heat for the same energy levels. My Silhouette loads were fairly hot using 240 grain JHP.

I use Universal for plinking loads (mostly lead SWC's). It should work well for light to slightly warm loads. I have always used H110 under 240gr XTP's for full power loads.

If you need red dot i can look it up in older manuals but like dryflash stated pretty much a waste for jacketed bullets..

Unique is really good for Lead bullets... and like stated you can make 44 special loads or pretty good mag loads with it..

I wouldn;t use unique for jacketed.. just a waste again..

I use 22gr 2400 and  a SNS coated 240 gr swc in my Super Redhawk.  Very accurate.  It may be past max published loads for non ruger revolvers.  Not really sure.

I have 240gr XTP loaded with H110, IMR-4227, and 800-X ready for testing.  Hopefully I will chronograph it in my revolver and carbine this weekend.

I just got done testing that bullet with  10.5gr Unique.

Good accuracy and easy on the hands.
