I really want a suppressed 357 Marlin lever.  Freaking impossible to find.  Once found the price is high and quality maybe questionable.

I don't want anything that is collectible.  So all the "pre" guns are priced accordingly, besides I want to thread it and suppress it.

I want a gun that I can scope, suppress and shoot full power 357 all the way to 38 special.  I want it to be reasonable accurate, and its gonna get beat up (at best, not get babied).  To that end, I'd like it to be stainless or I can get it coated.

For the selling price of a Marlin that fits my needs, I can get a Ruger and get everything done on it (less the optic).

What should I get?  I'm thinking Ruger, since I'm not finding anything else.  Or do you think the new suppressor Marlins really will be out and be quality?

I do not own a .357 Ruger, but I do have the .44.  I love lever guns, but the 77/44 is one of my all time favorite rifles (and I own a fair number).  It is so ridiculously handy in the woods, light and accurate.  Plus I put a 1x4 Leopold I got from Primary Arms for two hundred bucks on it, the thing is a whitetail murderer.  With a can I cannot imagine a cooler rifle.

Rossi?  They come in stainless and are inexpensive.  They can easily be threaded without moving the front sight or barrel band.  Mine is 44, but it's one of my favorite guns.  Handload with fast pistol powders and it's not much louder than a silenced 22 pistol.  subsonic 38spl is cheap so you might not even need to handload subsonic ammo!  Mine is 16 inch and holds 8 magnum and 9-10 special rounds.

The rugers are nice, but the magazines are flimsy, expensive, and they only hold 4(maybe 5 for 357?) rounds.  You also lose the iron front sight if you thread it.

Nothing in stock.  Just told me dealer to keep an eye out.  Looks like I’ll be waiting for some time.   I know it’s better to wait than get something I don’t really want.

Have you seen the new Marlin Rifle? Marlin is releasing a new 1894, 16", Threaded, 357 Mag. Most of the distributors that I have been talking to say to expect it before April.

I actually went Shot Show this year and that is rifle I want.

I actually wonder if it will be released.   If yes, what quality will it be.

If I keep looking and waiting, that will be a great option.

All the major distributors list it, they just don't have any available yet. I've been checking every couple days

I had a Ruger 77/357 for a short while and was underwhelmed.  It would be an ok $400-$500 gun but are way overpriced at $700-$800.  It wasn't particularly accurate and feeding was finicky.  I didn't have it long.

FWIW I have 3 stainless 357 rifles including a Marlin 1894CSS, Rossi 92 and Ruger 77/357.  Of the three, the Rossi is the best value but is made in Brazil and imported by Taurus.  As such replacement parts are hard to get and I have heard that customer service is terrible.  That said I have had no problems out of mine and am actually in the process of converting it to a SBR for use with one of my own Form 1 cans.

I bought the Ruger last summer with the intention of converting it to a SBR.  I added the 77/44 walnut stock and a Leupold VX-3 1.5-5x20mm scope but am still waiting on the stamp.  It feeds my heavy 38 supersonic loads using 358430 and 358200 bullets fine through the factory mags.

The Marlin is my newest addition and was a rescue project after Bubba coated the gun and did some other funny business.  I don't plan to modify this gun but if Marlin can get their act together and get the 1894CST to market I will probably buy one and SBR that too.

@kingstrider

You’ve posted those pictures before just to taunt me.

Great job on those.  I’d do something similar so I’m not looking for a collectible gun (mainly not willing to pay collectible prices). Since I’d modify it.  As you have.

Gotcha.  I chopped one of my 44s last weekend to 16" but am still working on shortening the magazine tube.  Eventually this will be converted to a SBR when the stamp comes back.  FWIW life is too short to worry about owning collectables and museum pieces.

Check out the Chiappa line of rifles.

I have the take down model in .357 and It's being threaded by my smith as we type.

When you get this done please post some photos.  I have considering doing something similar but wasn't sure how to do it with the takedown lever.

A few years ago I happened to find a Marlin 1894SS357 LTD which was part of a limited run of 16" .357's. Mine was practically unused. It smoothed up very nicely. I put a Williams Foolproof rear sight on it.

I owned a 77/357 that I could hardly hit the barn if I was inside when I fired . The crown was clean and sharp and I tried all sorts of 38/357 factory loads and everything was more or less about 12-16moa .

My Rossi 357 is smooth and slick and is fairly accurate and has a pretty nice trigger . Action works smoothly with most any bullet style in both 357 or 38.

To be fair my sample is sort of small (one each) but there you go.

Seems to me that anyone who desires this type of suppressed firearm and also wants to hunt with it should consider 44 over the 357

Check out the now archived 77/357 master thread sometime.  Lots of guys have some pretty awesome builds in there.
